Godot 4.7 added visual control offsets which makes animating UI 1000x easier, so I spent the evening sprinkling it in on various screens.

A friend recently was reflecting that they felt art direction in games has gotten generally worse. I think it's a good use of our time & energy to celebrate the fact that while there are a lot of whiffs in the world today, the recent era has also seen some of the greatest of all time

Trying out a similar low-tech sprite light effect in Godot! It uses the alpha layer, offset pixel-by-pixel, to set whether the pixel should be bright or dark. I'd like to try a version that selects between a Light and Dark pixel color for every hue, to preserve the limited-color look I like.

Some areas in Paper Mario feature a rim lighting effect that is achieved in a manner that is extremely simple for the surprisingly effective results it produces, being simply shifting around a shadow copy of the sprite.
