I hope Haley Stevens doesn't discourage Seth Moulton from trying to do our accent to seem authentic in his last-ditch primary push.
it’s amazing that there are ostensibly famous British people i never know about until they die and are remembered as a pedophile
[My landlord releasing a dozen diseased sewer rats in my living room] "We just don't feel it's healthy for you to live in some safe little bubble…"
Agreed that this is a great monologue & movie, but what I find striking is that over the past few years I've become convinced that boredom is, in fact, good, in that it leads directly to creative output. I get most of my best thinking done when I'm forced to be bored, by not being able to be online.
This Film often has the piss taken out of it for being a rather sedentary piece about 2 people just talking a lot — BUT — it has one of the most brilliantly prescient monologues in the history of Movies imho. MY DINNER WITH ANDRE (1981) Have a listen.
For just $5, you can be a little Ellison and fund a former NYT fuck-up. (Not Ross. It's me. I'm the fuck-up.)
Ross Douthat and I are the same age and we started at the NYTimes at the same time. Guess which one of us is crowdfunding instead of doing cameos on Bari's weird show. patreon.com/BrianMcFadden
I don't know who any of those traded Red Sox prospects are. Good luck to those boys (Or not if one's a chud.)
“Participation decline” and “no longer receiving “ is the passive language of sycophants & this is why I stopped donating & listening in 2016 after a literal lifetime of loyalty & support. Pathetic & shameful cowardice & complicity.
SNAP, also known as food stamps, has seen a rapid and consistent participation decline since last July. The drop comes as the program faces historic cuts and changes. n.pr/4w5XSc9
The dew point is on a rampage this week. At least there's no corn sweat in Boston.
Why would a woman try to appease a scary man whom she is legally bound to for many years to come, by virtue of a helpless child whom he has access to and could harm in retribution at any time? Why would she offer empanadas to such a man? Truly perplexing.
Can't wait until this guy's swiss cheese brain is on display in the Mütter Museum.

imagine if the only way you would have gotten Schulz's Peanuts was if his wife worked in tech. that would've changed the themes & content of the strip for sure.
oof really feels like the only way to be a working modern parent-cartoonist is to have a breadwinner spouse. I'm obliterated.
That scene with M. Emmett Walsh pantsed and stuck on the freeway will stick with me forever
Straight Time w/ Dustin Hoffman is a '70s classic. Never heard of it until it appeared on Criterion.

Jimothy Clyburn. I'm not going to draw it, but your mind just did. No A.I. necessary!
just said this on another post but it bears repeating: the thing about continuing to give money to any jk rowling properties or the nyt is not that they’re shitty about trans people, which they are. it is that both of these entities MATERIALLY CONTRIBUTE to the legal challenges to trans rights
Likes are nice, but being the funny coworker ... also nice. No way to monetize funny unfortunately.
Baseball is for everyone and the new women’s league is a great thing
Yes, as I posted a while back, it really just verifies my theory that the three essential flavors of superhero are Superman, Batman, and Spider-Man, and everybody else is essentially riffing
I think a Superman/Batman/Spider-Man exception to the trend is pretty much implicit here
If you say "David Zaslav" three times into a bathroom mirror, your toilet disappears and his veneers grow a little bit more.
I don't care about box office, but this photo implies Spider-Man's asshole is very sticky. (Venture Bros. did it; I know.)
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is swinging far higher than expected, as the superhero feature starring Tom Holland and Zendaya is becoming a breathtaking triumph in its opening weekend at the box office for Sony Pictures.
This is a fascinating situation. BARBIE 2 has the potential to make billions, but no one involved *needs* it. Zaslav makes gobs of money no matter what (because of some kind of dark magic?), and all of the talent have great careers and are doing just fine. So no one has any reason to back down.
Negotiations for Barbie 2 have come to a halt, and if Warner Bros. can't make a deal by December 2026, it will lose director Greta Gerwig, writer Noah Baumbach, and stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. https://bit.ly/4wyUpnf
