[My landlord releasing a dozen diseased sewer rats in my living room] "We just don't feel it's healthy for you to live in some safe little bubble…"

Agreed that this is a great monologue & movie, but what I find striking is that over the past few years I've become convinced that boredom is, in fact, good, in that it leads directly to creative output. I get most of my best thinking done when I'm forced to be bored, by not being able to be online.

This Film often has the piss taken out of it for being a rather sedentary piece about 2 people just talking a lot — BUT — it has one of the most brilliantly prescient monologues in the history of Movies imho. MY DINNER WITH ANDRE (1981) Have a listen.

Why would a woman try to appease a scary man whom she is legally bound to for many years to come, by virtue of a helpless child whom he has access to and could harm in retribution at any time? Why would she offer empanadas to such a man? Truly perplexing.

just said this on another post but it bears repeating: the thing about continuing to give money to any jk rowling properties or the nyt is not that they’re shitty about trans people, which they are. it is that both of these entities MATERIALLY CONTRIBUTE to the legal challenges to trans rights

This is a fascinating situation. BARBIE 2 has the potential to make billions, but no one involved *needs* it. Zaslav makes gobs of money no matter what (because of some kind of dark magic?), and all of the talent have great careers and are doing just fine. So no one has any reason to back down.

Negotiations for Barbie 2 have come to a halt, and if Warner Bros. can't make a deal by December 2026, it will lose director Greta Gerwig, writer Noah Baumbach, and stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. https://bit.ly/4wyUpnf
