A retired friend was remembering when there were departmental secretaries at universities who basically project managed the departments. You could give them handwritten documents, and they would type them up. He was shocked when I said it didn't work like that for female academics.

There's demand for cheap, low quality goods because good portion of population is extremely impoverished, and not expression of mass frugality. It's a side effect of living in extremely unequal world.

In Jan 2020, I read about Covid and said, "This is gonna be bad." In Feb, we divided our family into 2 households: essential worker vs high risk/WFH. In March, they began closures. In May, I married my longterm partner because we were afraid we'd have no rights if hospitalized. We were AFRAID.

I worked for New York’s largest medical center at the start of the pandemic. There were morgue trucks on the streets. They set up emergency medical tents in Central Park. Healthcare worker colleagues died. It is horrific that RFK Jr is on national TV lying that ICUs were empty.
I used to read every Important Book and see every Important film. These days, if I wish to experience grim hopelessness, I will simply interact with reality. The truth is, suffering is not the only profound human experience, and I'm tired of the only art that counts being the sad shit.

1052 words today. Was hoping for more but did three loads of laundry, the kind of vacuuming that requires the moving of heavy furniture, went grocery shopping, and did some meal prep today, all after getting a crappy night's sleep, so yeah. Maybe not so shabby after all.
I made a healthy kale and bean salad with a Tahini and parm dressing for my lunches this coming week. Now I just have to actually eat it.
