A friend who is a nurse called me after work distraught today. Last night United Healthcare denied a cancer patient's claim for a PET scan at 10pm said it needed to be appealed within 8 hours by 6am when they weren't even open. My friend left work last night at 7pm and got to work at 7am today.
Susan Collins announcing she'll vote against a controversial nominee is basically the moment it becomes clear that nominee will be confirmed. It means Thune has enough votes to confirm, and thus, Collins gets a pass to look independent.

Maine has lost 10 birthing units in just the past decade. While I appreciate the challenges hospitals like Lincoln face, closing this unit would be devastating for patients, workers, and Midcoast communities.
