A group of hard-working, hard-playing researchers investigating genome stability in fruit flies and beyond. We advocate for interdisciplinary science, innovative pedagogy, and effective mentoring.

So happy to announce our new preprint, “A geothermal amoeba sets a new upper temperature limit for eukaryotes.” We cultured a novel amoeba from Lassen Volcanic NP (CA, USA) that divides at 63°C (145°F) 🔥 - a new record for euk growth! #protistsonsky 🧵

Every few months the "good lab hands" thing comes up and it misses a key point: you can learn to have good hands. Training matters. Good hands aren't some magic gift from the PCR gods, you have to develop them through directed repetitive practice, like any other skill

It is not always safe to repair DNA Damage. Sometimes, cells "just bypass it". During DNA replication, repair of lesions on DNA can be dangerous. Cells instead "tolerate" DNA damage and focus on finishing replication. Read our review and find out why and how: doi.org/10.1016/j.ti...
