I've always loved the openness and collegiality of our C. elegans community 🪱, but this perspective really helps emphasize just *how important* those traits are for scientific progress. A true tribute to how curiosity-driven science leads to innovation! 🙌

A potent and plain-spoken defence of DEI in science - from the experts. Representation *matters*.
@joann-trejo.bsky.social, @marymunson4.bsky.social and I have a commentary in @natcellbio.nature.com on recent attacks on DEI in biomedical research: "If scientific research, especially biomedical research, is meant to serve everyone, then it requires that everyone has an opportunity to participate"

Fun fact: diluted tattoo inks and washes make pretty decent carbon sources for NTMs.
Eight of 63 clients of a tattoo artist using a homemade (witch hazel-based) diluent developed an NTM skin and soft tissue infection. Just say no to 🙅♂️homemade tattoo ink #IDSky academic.oup.com/cid/advance-...

The US has cut the equivalent of 3X the total annual CIHR budget so far this year, revealing both how low the CIHR budget is and how utterly draconian the White House has treated one of the most precious and successful institutions the US has ever built.

One SC2 variant that i see usually overlooked is XFC that is basically LP.8.1.1 with the NTD from LF.7 , interestingly it has been sampled two times in travelers coming into US from Ethiopia in a period spanning four months suggesting it may have high prevalence there along with XFJ .

The “BOBS” category in today’s puzzle seems slightly anti- #Celegans What about HERMAN, WATERSTON, or HERMAN?
That seems like such a shallow depiction of all of C. elegans’ behaviours and strengths. Clearly he never spent an hour watching some crawl around a plate. Oh well, who has time to educate all of the plebes.
