Josh makes S-tier educational content. If you’ve been thinking about checking out his courses, now’s the time!
✨ I just made a few lessons from my courses public for a few days! This is part of my annual Spring sale. It’s become tradition for me to offer a bit of a free sample, to help folks decide if my courses are a good fit for them or not. I call it the “Open House”, and it runs until Wednesday.
"But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. [...]" "...There’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it’s worth fighting for."
You don’t need a New Year’s resolution. You need a day’s. Do the right thing today. And then do it again tomorrow. That’s it. All it takes is your life. Day after day. That’s how life is lived. And how it’s wasted. Your choice. We all matter or none of us do. And all means all
I miss a lot of things about my grandmothers, but what strikes me is how little -- if any -- of it is centered in what a Large Language Model or generated images or video or audio could give me back. It's the rooms that my imagination still dwells in. The food I still eat. Haptics of presence.
IN DEPTH | If you could speak to your dead grandmother forever, would you?
It’s been almost a year of iterating on this Shortcut. The original design assumed I had more self control that I actually do. It was too easy to just cheat and always choose the option that would let me keep watching videos. Turns out, I’m just a little YouTube gremlin and I can’t be trusted.
One of my goals for 2025 is to spend less time binging YouTube videos. I made a Shortcut to help me be more intentional when I open the YouTube app on my phone.
Just hit the credits on Hades II. What a great game!
Them: So what have y'all been up to? Me: Haha, you know. The usual. The Usual:
I’ve been repurposing swag notebooks from tech companies as my journals for therapy. So far, I’ve got one from ThoughtWorks and one from Sanity 😂
Playing The Witcher 3 as God intended* *ignoring the main story to go on sidequests, pick flowers, and play Gwent
Dealing with law enforcement can be stressful, so it’s important to know your rights before you’re face-to-face with ICE agents. While there’s never any guarantee that law enforcement officers will follow the law, here’s what they can and can’t legally do to you and what you can legally demand. ⬇️
What Are My Rights During an ICE Raid?
Immigration law can be tricky, but here's what you should know.

Finally getting back to stitching this beast again! I started this one in 2020 but haven’t touched it much in the last few years. At this rate, I should finish it by… 2030 🤪
One of the most powerful tools in my toolbox is SVG. When combined with CSS and JavaScript, we can do some truly remarkable things. ✨ 📝 I’ve just published a brand-new blog post that covers the most critical fundamentals. It’s chock full of interactive demos. 😄 Check it out:
A Friendly Introduction to SVG • Josh W. Comeau
SVGs are one of the most remarkable technologies we have access to on the web. They’re first-class citizens, fully addressable with CSS and JavaScript. In this tutorial, I’ll cover all of the most imp...

Hey friends! I did a TEDx talk and it's now up on the TED Conferences YouTube. It's possibly the best and most important talk I've ever done. I would ask that you watch it, and please SHARE it broadly and widely. Thank you! youtu.be/dVG8W-0p6vg #AI #Tech #TED

It's Amazon Prime Day, which means it's yet another great day to stick it to Bezos and support indie bookstores instead! If you wanna shop online, @bookshop.org purchases support a local indie of your choice. Plus, they're doing a sale and free shipping for Prime Day!
Meredith has always been a G, but it's still exceptionally weird and very refreshing hearing from a tech exec who can see through all of this AI bullshit for what it is at its foundation: a backdoor surveillance tool.
Worth a watch: Head of Signal, Meredith Whittaker, on so-called "agentic AI" and the difference between how it's described in the marketing and what access and control it would actually require to work as advertised.
This is the first conversation about how to implement AI that has actually given me some hope instead of sending me into an existential crisis. Great insights, definitely give it a watch!
I got to chat with the amazing Hazel Weakly all about how we're building AI tools backwards. I can't tell you how much I love this nuanced take. Check it out! Big thanks to @hazelweakly.me for chatting with me! www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hvrx...
Got to flex my teaching muscles at DevCon! I facilitated two sessions of a guided workshop about Workday Extend Pro features, including the AI Gateway. Feeling energized by the conversations with students & grateful for the incredible team of educators and developers who made this event happen.
If you look at the state of the world and start feeling like hope is pointless, I want to share this passage from @prisonculture.bsky.social and @mskellymhayes.bsky.social's book LET THIS RADICALIZE YOU, from the chapter "Hope and Grief Can Coexist." www.haymarketbooks.org/books/1922-l...
AI has always promised to help people spend more time doing valuable work by automating the manual, repetitive, toilsome tasks so that software developers can be free to use their time on "something better". That's not what's happening.
The promise that wasn’t kept
AI is distracting us from creating real value. While we chase speed and automation, meaningful and human-centered work is getting left behind. Is this progress?

your regular reminder that buying Harry Potter stuff gives money to Rowling and she uses that money directly and in large quantities to fund attacks on trans people no ethical consumption under capitalism and all but “don’t buy Potter stuff” is an extremely easy baseline to follow
The upcoming Hogwarts Legacy 2 could potentially feature more characters from the Harry Potter books and movies.
As someone who finds it hard to set priorities because I want to do everything and also do everything perfectly, it's good to have regular reminders that you have to set your priorities in life, like @hiroko.io's "You can't be a Straight A student in life, so pick 3":
You can't be a Straight A student in life, so pick 3
"Life isn't school- you can't be a Straight A student in all aspects of life. So pick 3 to prioritize."

It is not the point of you to “scale.” You are not at scale. If you are able to do something that helps one person, you helped one person, and that is more than there were before. If you are part of a community that helps people, you are contributing to helping people at scale.
Welp. Apple snuck something dirty in our phones last night. Settings > Apps > (pick an app) > Siri > Learn From this App TOGGLE OFF. You have to go through each app. My garage app, my BANKING APPS, others had that turned on automatically. 😡
Alright it's two months later and I've finished the first two games. Time to restart the third!
9 hours into The Witcher 3 and they’re asking me about character choices from the earlier games (which I didn’t play)… So now I’ve downloaded the first two games to play as well 😅
I wrote a tutorial on how I built this Shortcut, in case anyone wants to recreate it for themselves! If you do, I'd love to hear what other things you're putting on your "how I want to spend my time" list. meganesulli.com/blog/shortcu...
