"Ultimately, my politics are safety." YES. @ruthz.bsky.social
Too many men use their progressive bonafides to shield themselves from being held accountable for sexual violence. And too many other men let them, caring more about the political calculus than the women they harm. Enough. My latest: dot-connecting.ghost.io/misogyny-in-...
When guys are like “that’s not rape, all my friends have done that,” that’s exactly what we’re talking about. That’s the problem. Rape is so common and unpunished that a guy could casually reveal all his friends are rapists and not see it as a problem.
It has been criminally underreported but Kelsey Pfendler has just rowed solo across the Pacific Ocean from the US coast to Hawaii in record time. A 2,400-mile unsupported journey in 43 days, 17 hours, and 55 minutes. Notably beating the Men’s record by 9 whole days.
Intimate partner violence and sexual assault usually co-occur. In fact, men who hurt their significant others are among the most likely to commit *all* kinds of violence. The idea that men can mistreat women in private and be trusted in public is absurd.
it really doesn't seem too much to ask.
perhaps we should view nazi tattoos as disqualifying from here on out. i kind of assumed we'd already view them as disqualifying but was unpleasantly surprised so maybe from here we could all agree not to downplay nazi tattoos since they seem pretty indicative of broad disregard for human dignity
#AuthorsandWriters #booksky #ProfessorSky What do folks think about assigning their own work--not as a requirement, but among other options for a student project? This would be an essay published online, no cost to students.

When you see the story about how the world now has its first trillionaire, and when you see the story about how laboratories in Congo have run out of supplies to test for Ebola, it is important to understand that in many ways these are the same story.
There should not be a single person hungry, without medical care, or homeless while there’s a trillionaire, and that this is the situation shows not only how profoundly broken government is, but also how profoundly broken Elon is.
Pope Leo: "Every boat that arrives does not bring only migrants; it brings with it a question: what world have we built, if so many brothers must risk death to seek life?"
My article titled "Women Are Not Safe Around Men" is on pace to pass 1 million reads. I expected to get hate from men telling on themselves, and while that happened, I've also received a number of emails and notes from men appreciating the research. Read here: www.qasimrashid.com/p/women-are-...
Women Are Not Safe Around Men
This is a fact. The data is unambiguous and the solutions exist. The only thing missing is the will to act.

This is Amin Abdullah, the security guard at the Islamic Center of San Diego who died protecting his community and whose bravery very likely bought time for the students, teachers, and others at the mosque to find safety. A recent Facebook post gives you a sense of who he was.

I’m an asst. prof at Vanderbilt. I published “When We Collide: Sex, Social Risk, and Jewish Ethics” in 2023. I’m working on a book about ethics, neurodivergence, & Talmud. A friend visited me, & mentioned it to a friend of theirs, who exclaimed “Rebecca from the sex book?” Thus am I dubbed, etc.
academic queens: let’s brag about ourselves & follow each other. I’m a tenured professor at William & Mary whose book on Shakespeare just got published. I also write for public venues like @chronicle.com, @bostonglobe.com, @huffpost.com, etc. I love to make men mad in my spare time.
It’s the domestic violence. It’s the guns. It’s the combination of patriarchy and easy access to guns. Domestic violence is a gun violence issue, and gun violence is a domestic violence issue. We cannot address one without addressing the other.
She’s not as well known as Jane Goodall or Dian Fossey, but she did for orangutans what they did for chimps and gorilla. Her book Reflections of Eden was stunning. An enormous life and loss. www.nytimes.com/2026/04/02/s...

I really can’t watch any of these ice flip videos without thinking about how a white man is being rewarded for accomplishing what a Black woman was punished for doing 30 years ago Surya Bonaly was an incredible athlete and she was treated like shit for it
I cannot be the only person thinking about how Surya Bonaly was treated for doing the same back flips on the ice that these white boys are getting applauded for at the Olympics today
