EA's annual Ebitda is around $1.5 billion, which should be enough to service the interest payments. But the publisher has told debt investors that it will cut $700 million in annual costs including $170 million in "organizational efficiencies," per Bloomberg. In other words: mass layoffs

btw if the ESA or any of these studios wanted to put together an initiative to provide financial relief to laid off game workers, they have ~$60M in total assets that they could allocate towards one. They're welcome to reach out to me if they need info on how to set one up.
Devs, pay attention to who is actually, practically offering support to our laid off colleagues. It’s not the companies, it’s not the ESA, it’s the union, it’s us.
13. Hence our dismal conclusion: rather than finding that LLMs free us to do a better job of what we were doing before they came along, they shift scientific incentives (and the playing field of academic competition) in ways that compel us to do more and more, faster and faster, less and less well.

"transforming Game Pass into a bustling indie library could work to both rapidly shrink the costs of running the service, as well as retain more subscribers" IMO the primary reason Game Pass failed to hit its subscriber targets is because the mass market simply does not care to play lots of games.
Game Pass Was Supposed To Be the Netflix-Style All-You-Can-Play Subscription That Would Save Xbox – Instead, It’s Killing the Company
Game Pass was supposed to be the all-you-can-play subscription service that put Xbox on top after a disastrous generation. Instead, it's a failure that's threatening to ruin the company.

This is true, and the critics/journalists that play 100 games a year have trouble really grokking that a whole lot of people just stick with a handful of games/series and keep going back to them, often for years

Fucking tell that to my mate in Pudsey who has had to sell the house his brickie father built to pay mums £80,000 a year care costs to a company based in a fucking tax haven. Charles Moore's family will doubtless have millions left to pay for this care. Most working class families have a house.
Interesting that almost all analysis of Xbox in freefall completely ignores an organized boycott intended to harm the company financially. Meanwhile, multiple news stories on the home page all month about PlayStation boycotts that haven't even happened yet.

When the story of why humanity didn't stop climate change is written, it will feature front pages like this. Even as the skies blacken with climate change-induced wildfires, right wing media continue their relentless crusade against measures to tackle it.
Anushka Asthana observed this several times - how come Starmer was so generous and considerate to his peers, and yet he was a relentless bastard to everyone he considered inferior and beneath him? And the explanation should be obvious to anyone who’s had a job, or been to school.
Listen, I agree there’s loads of good signs re Burnham, but taking a firm pro-immigration stance should be a basic requirement for an ostensibly progressive politician. And sorry for being biased here as an immigrant myself. Mahmood made me want to leave the UK and keeping her is incredibly hurtful.
