This is rough but I think it talks about a lot of what is missing from the Cunningham/WNBA discourse. Namely, that trans people are not hypothetical thought experiments. They are real people who are being genocided by our government & any coverage that doesn't center that reality misses the mark.

I agree, but I‘d add - or out slightly differently (?) - that we mainly see amateur sports as an avenue for professional sport opps or other financial rewards (scholarship). We do not value sport for sport‘s sake.

Sophie Cunningham said that she is going to protect women in sports by terrorizing her coworkers who are all women in sports.
If these bigots truly “support[ed] women’s sports,” as they say, they’d be watching the WNBA game & not standing in line to get a photo with a 5th place swimmer

It’s so funny (and even more telling) that the owners of professional sports teams acknowledge that there’s a problem with having an enormous wealth gap, but it only matters to them when it’s the difference between different magnitudes of billionaire.
24 teams within 4 1/2 games of a playoff berth. I know I keep hammering this point, but it's because parallel to this, MLB has built an entire labor strategy, including a media campaign, around this not being true.

Among many thoughts: that reporting ought to be an existential emergency for MAGA and the international far right, but the reaction is eerily mute due (perhaps) to the decline of reading and weak political opposition.

The idea that the league, teams, coaches, and players should remain silent in the face of this absolute discriminatory bullshit encouraged by bigoted statements from a player is bananas to me. Everyone should be shouting this down. You want an welcoming and inclusive fanbase? PROVE IT.
