Emily Wilson is condescendingly rude & misses points about Nolan's Odyssey, & now she's written ANOTHER piece on it. 🙄 If you have to read it, it's best to use a gift article link, so here's one. Maybe I'll read it later myself, but right now I can't be bothered. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

A Trojan Horse Is Supposed to Have Humans Inside It

Christopher Nolan’s Odyssey is full of contradictions about deceit and violence.

"If Nolan’s film really is 'woke', this is why – because it’s fundamentally a film about the value of multilateralism produced for an increasingly nationalistic world. Musk and co seem to have missed this message. But it’s the real reason why they should hate the film." Peter Swallow on The Odyssey:

The right hates The Odyssey because of its ‘wokeness’ – but it missed an even bigger threat to its worldview | Peter Swallow

The new film extols the value of a rules-based world order. That’s far more radical than any casting decision says Labour MP and classicist Peter Swallow

Opening Saturday for another Marvel movie. At my local Regal multiplex, ten of their twenty screens are devoted to the new Spider-Man film, totaling 58 screenings today. There are 43 screenings of other movies there for a total of 101 screenings. More than half the theater is showing the MCU movie.

If I could interview the original quartet, or at least Karin Bergquist & Linford Detweiler, I'd choose Over the Rhine's album Good Dog Bad Dog: The Home Recordings. I'd include reflection on the impact the record has had & also info on the re-release with "It's Never Quite What It Seems."

You have a month to write a 33 1/3 book about the album of your choice. Which record are you going to write about? (No previously covered albums allowed; new shit must come to light: see below.) (For all books in the series: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/33_1/3) (H/t @monostich.bsky.social

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

This is from the short TV series Orson Welles' Sketch Book. The whole show was just him talking to the camera for about 15 minutes, plus some sketches he drew. 6 episodes (included in the playlist linked below) & a postscript episode, all of which can be seen on YouTube. youtube.com/playlist?lis...

Yeah. Trump isn't some master strategist. He's a stupid bully with very few tools in his toolbox. He lies and threatens and uses force, but he can't duck and weave, he can't feint, he can't take one on the chin... His "art of the deal" is just to try bullying. That's all he's got.

The thing I wish that more Democrats and threatened universities and vilified news organizations understood better about Trump is this: He never has a second move. www.nytimes.com/2026/07/30/u...
