Michael Trice, the Sturm Brightblade of Rhetoric

I've broken down the gates. Lecturer in Rhetoric and Writing at MIT. Father. Gamer. Teacher. Researcher Parageographer.

in 2016 Elon Musk said he would build a fully automated factory in Fremont, California for the upcoming Model 3 and he then spent on the order of $2 billion on production lines that didn't work, forcing Tesla to assemble cars by hand in a tent but sure, now he's gonna do it on the moon

DURBIN: You wrote an article in which you claimed 'Black inmates are most like to become sexual aggressors.' Why should people of color believe you've changed? CRONAN: I co-authored the article. I haven't re-read it in a long time. DURBIN: Do you believe it? CRONAN: I'm not in a position to opine

Kevin is not exaggerating, VDARE was not white nationalist in the sense of "well if you get right down to it the modern GOP has always been white nationalist" VDARE was white nationalist in the sense of "yeah those Nazis sure are white nationalist"

Gonna go out on a limb here and say racist cranks who write for extremist white nationalist websites like VDARE should not, in fact, be confirmed to top roles in the Department of Justice.

A few hot takes on the letter, which I will refer to as Compact 2.0: 0) I appreciate the shift from outright extortion to (theoretically) open-ended questions. 1) Nevertheless, both the framing of the questions and wording of several rest on a thin evidence base and unexamined assumptions.

My reaction to this statement of next steps from @ncte.org on writing studies & rhetoric is, no thanks. I appreciate that they “might” keep most ongoing commitments but, beyond that, the field must sever ties with NCTE & build existing, independent spaces to replace CCCC. ncte.org/press-update...

Moving Forward: Updates on CCCC from the NCTE Executive Committee

The NCTE Executive Committee authorizes the following transitional steps upon the difficult decision reached on July 24, 2026.

I am unbelievably touched that @dropout.tv titled my @dimension20.dropout.tv Adventuring Academy episode “A Duty of Care”

I’m overwhelmed today, but I want to circle back in a while to share the links to everyone & everything I cited. More soon.

How did a false allegation lead to Pete Buttigieg's separation from his kids? Our exclusive reporting shows how authorities did not take steps to vet the caller who left her contact. We found the caller who said she wanted to thwart his White House ambitions. Gift link: wapo.st/45ok5XP

Source of false Buttigieg allegation appeared ‘mentally unstable,’ records show

The Michigan attorney general’s office is investigating how the accusation that prompted the ex-Cabinet secretary's separation from his 4-year-old twins was handled.

I am struggling to understand the logic of destroying the main composition component of your English Teaching organization when comp is a)valued and b) going down the tubes society-wide because of AI, but I'm not an English Teacher I guess

More on @ncte.org’s betrayal of its membership and mission by dissolving CCCC: www.insidehighered.com/news/faculty...

I will never choose to affiliate with @ncte.org, given the absolutely disgraceful way they have chosen to dissolve CCCC, a 70+ year organization central to the discipline of writing and literacy studies. I am so disappointed in the NCTE leadership. May they come to view their actions with horror.

What an unceremonious end to CCCC, a key part of my professional career for almost 20 years. Goodbye, @ncte.org. I expect I speak for hundreds and maybe thousands of college writing instructors in saying we’ll find or make our way via other organizations.

Message outlining my reasons for not rejoining NCTE.

I'm not reactivating my FB account to follow the news, but apparently some at NCTE might dissolve CCCC....in the middle of summer. I don't always agree w/CCCC, but it's undeniable we need a strong national organization devoted to college writing instruction. CCCC has been that since the late '40s.

Research citations were broken already due to scale issues, but AI is going to make it far worse. Researcher tried a small test creating a fake disease via a handful of pre-prints. ai models rushed the fake disease to users. Faster when ai slop writes about ai slop. www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Scientists invented a fake disease. AI told people it was real

Bixonimania doesn’t exist except in a clutch of obviously bogus academic papers. So why did AI chatbots warn people about this fictional illness?
