She was AGHAST that Nolan, with his million $ budget, gave Matt Damon ONLY 6 hair extensions. As a result, his hair did not blow around properly, & that ruined the film for her.

I’m telling you this as a political scientist. The person who is electable is the one who is elected. This can and does change over time. Any and all speculation about “electability” is either puffery or anxiety and is often both.

Does tenure protect some weak performers? Sure. So does capricious management, where bosses can fire people for any or no reason, and keep people on no matter how crappy they are. At least this way, there's due process protection. But that's all tenure really is. (cont)
Important to note that this has always been true. Tenure was never a "job for life." That's anti-faculty PR. What's changed is the willingness of management to trump (pun intended) up bad faith reasons for overriding it. (cont)

I'm weirdly finding that as I get older, it's easier to learn new skills, which is the opposite of what I thought was supposed to happen. I don't think we're giving enough credit to a lifetime of built skills. When new skills have overlap w/existing ones it greases the wheels for the new.

Stopped by a farmer's market Sunday. Several stalls had near-identical ai-generated menu boards, and they just felt gross. I stopped by the place with a chalkboard selling pupusas.

Exactly. This is where theory is so helpful as a lens. (This is adding to not contradicting OP) So if you have a critical feminist lens, you understand that these are both the same project of marginalizing women and maintaining a binary that (white, cis, straight, wealthy) men are in charge of.
