Very early in the pandemic, I spent 2 terrible weeks in isolation, unable to breathe or walk across the room. Waiting my temp. to spike. Worrying about my kids. Fighting against dying. In the middle of this covid revisionist, anti-vax bullshit, it was worth saying what that felt like:

Poem titled "Gnawed." The text of the poem reads:

Gnawed

Kalends of April, 2020

I can feel the rat,
dark and angry,
buried
in the furrows of my chest,
trying hard to pull apart
the fiber of my breathing.
Twisting. Writhing.
Clawing
with a feral-hearted hatred
at the bonds that sinew
soul to skin.
I cannot walk across the room without
the rasping of its teeth
along the inside of my ribs,
or speak without it screaming
in the shallows of my breath.
I can only lie beyond
the borders of my life,
checking the thermometer
a hundred times a day
as all the while
I am being
eaten
from the inside out.

A new find-the-tiny-silver-owl photo for you. It’s also worth zooming in for the silver cast I’ve made of a tiny feather, acorn, oak leaf & larch cone, a miniscule piece of coral, a pyritised ammonite & to see the design on the Victorian brooch I’m going to convert into a pendant…

A photo I’ve made of nature finds, tiny antique & found objects, hidden among which is a very tiny silver owl charm

While electability is a real thing to consider, it's always a little surprising to me to be reminded how many progressives think "this election is too important to nominate a woman" is a reasonable position.

This Independence Day Declaration from 13 SUNY and CUNY governance leaders seeks to add to this dialogue on funding, pricing, staffing, and governing public higher education as an indispensable public good. 5/5 bsky.app/profile/publ...

Reporter: Isn’t there concern that this slippery slope to socialism inevitably ends up as full-blown communism? AOC: They want to call everything they don’t like communist because if people actually wake up to the fact that their elected officials are screwing them over when they get here

This is Richard. He's sometimes accused of not being a real dog because of his weird paws and inability to bark. Thinks his pack would say otherwise. 12/10 for all (IG: richardandtheguardians)

This is Holly. Every day for the past 5 years, she picks out a stick and brings it to her favorite spot for “zen time.” While her stick may change, her routine never does. 13/10 (IG: hollythebluestaffy)
