#WalkPerspective. Here because we need safe walking, wheeling & cycling for everyone in Canadian cities. Posts by Martyn of Kjipuktuk/Halifax.
As far as I’m aware, this is the fastest someone has died on a road that the city explicitly stated they made safer. They widened general traffic lanes I’m the name of safety. Speed was a factor.
A fatal crash between a fire truck and a mini van on Tuesday night was caused by speed and alcohol, police said in a Thursday media release.
"a city traffic agent was directing traffic at the intersection when he waved a dump truck through and was then struck by the same vehicle" RIP. Brutally dangerous work.
COLLISION: 1 pedestrian fatality at Millwood Road and Overlea Boulevard, Toronto on October 29, 2026.
"safe driving habits have deteriorated over time, with many people caring less about the rules of the road" Appalling situation, but good clear messaging from police and Council which identifies and targets the culprits, not buts or victim blaming www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

"jaywalk like a man" won't someone think of the drivers?
With record pedestrian deaths in Calgary, X929 radio & beckler89 think it’s fun to spread the narrative that some people shouldn’t press the pedestrian crossing button… This is peak car brain, it propagates anti-pedestrianism and road violence. Time to ban X929. #Calgary #yycWalk #yycBike
"the why is pretty straightforward - physics"
Predictable. Preventable. Unacceptable. These are the opening words in one of our early media releases back in March 2026. But why doesn't @hfxgov.bsky.social act on what we know to improve road safety? Thanks to the amazing work of @kwilsonhfx.bsky.social & his #HFXByBike channel you can find out!
Love how we owns that massive intersection by calmly walking diagonally across it. What's your local traffic engineers excuse for not doing this?
Scramble intersections. It’s not that hard. Improved pedestrian safety as all traffic stops to let people cross in all directions. If Chicoutimi can do this, why not #OttCity? H/t @brigittepellerin.bsky.social ottawacitizen.com/opinion/pede...
Cyclists said No. Throughout Canada, cyclists and bike lane infrastructure are being used as a scapegoat for unsupportable road costs caused by prioritizing cars, and congestion caused by that.
“We’re insulted that they listed all the stakeholder groups that they consulted with on the University (Avenue) design, and there wasn’t a single group . . . actually representing people who cycle who would use the facility." www.saltwire.com/nova-scotia/...
"It was dark and raining heavily at the time," VPD said in the release. ——- Such unusual climatic conditions are obviously impossible for Vancouver transportation engineers to foresee when designing safe public infrastructure. Pinky ring or no.
