This issue was resolved by US v Morris, 928 F.2d 504 (2d Cir 1991), codified by the CFAA in 1996, and clarified by Van Buren v US, 141 S.Ct. 1648 (2021). They intentionally deployed an unauthorized access tool. It's no defense to say they didn't intend the resulting damage; Morris lost on that. 1/2

After Anthropic and OpenAI both admitted to their AI models hacking other companies, @lorenzofb.bsky.social and I wanted to find out: Who is legally to blame when an autonomous AI agent hacks something? Lawyers say it's really complicated! Bypass for ad-blockers: web.archive.org/web/20260803...

Hey #genealogy folks - anyone else dug in on this? Anyone want to double check my work (in the thread below)? I'm curious if anyone's found another match, or another relative that might have taken Fred's photos to the front and subsequently lost them?

Could you reunite these photos with their family 109 years later? ❤️ Private J McCarthy found these on the battlefield during WW1 and sent them to his wife back in Burnley, hoping she could find the family they belonged to. Can you solve the mystery?

This is Loki, our Maine Coon and the cat of our hearts, and he went missing today. We have no idea how he got out, but he’s an elder, indoor cat, the whole region’s in an intense heat wave, and we’re really scared. I doubt I have any followers here in Martinez, CA, but if so, help? It’s SO hot

People still complain about “lockdowns” but we had none in the US. We had stay-at-home orders, where although businesses were closed, you could still go outside whenever you wanted. Other countries had far stricter rules, and yet have been much more accepting of them as they saved many more lives.

Those who believe things like this are working hard at not understanding the finite options available to someone whose abuser has not been prosecuted, found guilty, etc. by the law. And how rarely those things happen to abusers, esp. high-status white male abusers.

Rep. Max Miller: "These are incredibly serious criminal accusations. If these accusations were true, I would be in jail — I would be. My former wife would not have been offering to cook me dinner and inviting me to playgrounds. Think about that."

Gotta say, this leaves me wondering if Bernie isn't abusive on some level also. I've heard other men talk about their families like this. Being concerned with defining the situation (esp. that focus on his wife's pain), that's a red flag for me. He seems upset that someone has usurped his control.

senator bernie moreno finally makes a statement about the allegations of abuse by rep. max miller against his daughter and granddaughter after miller went live on X this morning to deny everything.

Our school systems, from elementary level, are overtly designed to produce humans who will "contribute to society". I feel like most "gifted" folks learned this early: your potential (contribution to society) is your value as a human. That's a shitty belief. For *everyone.*

Some people can’t get past the “this is simply a fact“ stage. But I promise it is edifying, even if you come to the same conclusion, to interrogate your values around this assumption, and will help us all have a more productive discussion about how we might better organize society wrt labor.

Trying to remember to breathe over here. Anyone have any experience with an auto insurance company providing a repair estimate after an accident that was GENERATED BY AI FROM PHOTOS?! It just HAPPENS to be $54 over the value of the car. They're totalling it. WTAF?

My brother, as a middle schooler in the '80s, used to confidently declare things as if they were true: "Elephants only hear out of one ear." He particularly enjoyed fooling my parents. Over time he got more subtle: "Did you know that sharks sometimes 'adopt' shiny fish and keep them as pets?"

Sadly, I think a big part of the problem with AI is that mostly people DON'T KNOW when the results it returns are garbage. If identifying AI hallucinations were as easy as noticing that 2 + 2 = 5 is wrong, AI probably would have withered on the vine by now.

general reminder that you absolutely do not need to have an opinion on everything. social media just makes you think you should. "i don't know enough about this to have an opinion" is one of the most liberating thoughts you can have in the modern world.
