As someone who does not have access to a library with books in her native language: bookstores can't do what libraries do. Trust me. This is a lot of the reason why, despite Japan doing the MOST with English classes no one can speak it. Read Hungry Caterpillar? That's it for books for you, in JHS!

If we wanna cut these off at the source, stop sharing them, stop making videos about them, stop hosting them on your websites. Stop giving talentless hacks the attention they crave. Stop rewarding them for defiling our hobbies.

Just woke up from a dream where I found someone selling a bunch of Setzer art that was beautiful on Livejournal (???) and I was stressing out not wanting to insult them by making an offer I could afford BUT the dream wasn't unpleasant because the awe outside the anxiety felt nice? I don't know.
There's a little winnie the pooh gacha machine I am always tempted by whenever I see it and USUALLY I am good at resisting BUT one of them is him in his little raincoat which I would have liked for typhoon day but alas I got pilot pooh again (he is still cute though)
This made me realize that whenever anyone recommends anything to me, my next question is always "is it already complete?" I've been burned way too many times to be taken for a fool again.

I read "Maybe it's not good to always realize the wishes of others." "I see, sometimes having wishes realized is bad" in a game (not in beta, as a player, released to the public for money) this morning and got depressed. It's ROUGH out there now that because it's *~AI~* that's somehow acceptable.

Keep in mind that a lot of stuff on that checklist can and will be explained away by "well as long as we have someone check it first, it's fine". Stress that you care about working conditions, consistency, and that you want to read work handled with respect and care by people who get paid to do so.

Localization has become such a dirty word that I wish there was a pithier way to express that it's pretty damn rich that people who justify the value of their work through their ability to ~express their vision~ are the first to shit on translators when we're doing it across languages AND cultures.

A rant: in the 21st century, translation has been one of the industries where executives have been the most open and the most eager about vampirizing human labor to train the mediocre machines meant to replace it, so it irks me to no ends when I hear people say “this is where I’m okay with AI”.
