Really identifies what is wonderful about writing. Writing is thinking, revealing things you didn't know you knew, or allowing you to clarify and actually say what you always wanted to say. I look at old things I wrote and am often surprised by how smart, knowledgeable, and/or wonderful I was.

‘writing crystallizes previously half-formulated or unformulated thoughts, gives them form, and extends chains of thoughts in new directions’ As everyone has already said, this 2010 essay by Lynn Hunt is utterly wonderful:

"There has to be some differentiation" is such a weird thing to say because the thing we do now is get everyone medical care that evaluates everyone's needs on a case by case basis, and hopefully provides them with support. Nobody is treated as a member of a group.

Perhaps I'm being unfair – after all, this is a favorite argument of some of the parents of some disabled children. It'll be instantly recognizable to anyone familiar with autism parent groups that aren't moderated by actually autistics. So is it the most fucked up arg I've read recently? Yeah.

ADHD is very, very real. It is also a spectrum. Some people simply cannot function, and I don't mean in a slightly distracted or mischievous kind of way, I mean absolutely cannot function, without 1:1 personal support and medical intervention. Others have very mild symptoms indeed.

There has to be some differentiation in how patients are diagnosed, treated, and most importantly labelled. The same applies to autism, which has hugely varied impacts, from mild social impairment, to non-verbal and requiring full-time care.

If we do not start to differentiate properly, many profoundly disabled people with ADHD (and/or autism) are going to be thrown under the bus as the backlash grows against these labels, in part as a result of them including so many relatively mild cases.

"In the workplace, smart glasses exacerbate the power imbalance between the customer and the employee, or the boss and subordinate. Resisting invasive technology is risky when you depend on your job to pay rent or buy groceries." or to have health insurance.

New: Target staff "pranked" for social media; a comedian filmed mid-set; a Sprouts worker whose boss started wearing Meta glasses; and a cashier worried customers are filming down her shirt. Meta glasses are in the workplace, and workers feel powerless to stop it. 🎁 www.theverge.com/report/98241...

I love when people call me a Luddite. MRNA vaccines? Inject that content into my muscles. Solid state batteries? Fuck yeah let's scale that shit and get it out there. Agrivoltaic breakthroughs marrying plants and technology? LET'S GO, power + plants is specifically my jam.

I have an English degree along with secondary education. I also have a Master of Library and Information Science degree. Everything you read counts as reading. Yes, graphic novels are reading. Yes, audiobooks are reading. Yes, smut is reading. Whatever you like, just get your read on!

Revanche@revanche.bsky.social · 3d ago

Looked for context and this still seems weird. I graduated with that Eng major and reading academic stuff was a huge part of my job after. I'm not judging what you're reading. 100 smut or academic books, whatever, as long you enjoy. Reading is good!

We don't talk enough about the fact that the government can let our infrastructure go to shit because the government doesn't have to pay when its choices cause us harm, and maybe it should.

People who don't read smut are just jealous that they don't get to find out about gutta percha in a low stakes environment (this is a joke, I'm not serious, do not take this seriously)

this from upenn's student paper is worth reading as the term starts: "AI cannot coexist with education — it can only degrade it. As technology advances and workers are replaced by machines, schools are some of the only places we have left to explore and wrestle with human thought."

Editorial | Penn has an AI problem

The Daily Pennsylvanian Editorial Board argues that Penn’s choice to embrace AI is detrimental to the institution of higher education.

There's an edit of one of my comics going around that expresses political views that I do not support. Fortunately, there have been people responding to this edit by mentioning how it's contradictory to the themes and messages of my comics. Thank you so much for having my back. Black Lives Matter.

A lot of people don't know this, but when you brush a cat, you are legally required to show them the wad of cat hair that came off of them and tell them "this is enough for another whole cat"

The ND legislature has failed us multiple times, refusing to pass free school lunch bills. Voters are taking it into our own hands! ~30,130 ND kids experience food insecurity. Nearly 1/2 are ineligible for federal meal programs. Measure 2 would help fill this gap. www.togetherforschoolmeals.org
