I wrote a similar column months ago about Toronto’s mayor + Ford. Other candidates boast of skills to “work w other levels of govt” but that’s easy. Fighting well — pushing back strongly when needed, winning hearts/minds — takes skill & courage. Much harder.

As I had to dodge (then-councillor) Doug Ford in his Lincoln Navigator after getting off a Dundas streetcar at least one time, I don’t imagine he’d allow for drivers to face any consequences for blowing past open streetcar doors.

A theme here is that if a person inside city government intervenes on behalf of a restaurant losing parking spots or a random driver getting a parking ticket, that's seen as constituent services. If another government insider works on behalf of keeping people alive, that's seen as advocacy.

A) To repeat, night sittings are an optional choice the PC government has made, not a necessity B) It takes 5 MPPs to force a recorded division which is then deferred to the following day, the idea that the government was in danger of losing a meaningful vote is silly.
