And renewing my offer -- any college class in Texas that wants to discuss the book, I'll happily Zoom in for the chat.

I'm just going to say it. If you talk like this, you are an abuser. Change my mind.
Rep. Max Miller on his ex-wife: "It's sad to see that the only person this affects is our daughter, someone I don't think she cares about very much"
Wow. Going with the "if I had done it I'd be in prison" defense. What a despicable piece of shit.
🤯 Rep. Max Miller's interview with Jake Tapper was one of the most self-destructive things I've ever witnessed on cable news. Here's the whole thing:
I have a similar experience in basketball (the sport de jure). Played in high school. Never started. I was a solid varsity guard at a decent high school in Iowa. The guy who started: already being looked at by pro soccer scouts. He was 5'8 and could touch the rim. Quicker than lightning.
this is one of my all time favorite tweets and if you'll forgive me being a serious tennis nerd about it for a second, tennis is one of those sports where it's really difficult to overstate how many levels there are between you and the pros (mini thread)
This last sentence is a good way to frame what the whole argument is a proxy for. Men who argue elite hs boys could beat WNBA players are really saying that women's sports only have value relative to men's sports, and that value will always be inferior.
the best HS teams in the country have multiple guys who will be in the NBA in a couple of years. they aren't normal high schools, they're basketball factories. but this literally doesn't matter. the value of women's sports isn't contingent on their performance vis a vis men.
the right wants to bait you into an argument that you don't need to have and that you will probably lose. it's important to recall what your principles are rather than just negatively polarize against whatever they're spewing

Don't just drive past the premise, though, which is absurd. Any WNBA team is exclusively the top 0.01% athletes in the sport. Pretending that a high school team could hang with, much less beat, them is ridiculous.
In a college sociology class in the late 1980s I was assigned a Marxist analysis of education that argued that the US education system is designed primarily to produce efficient workers for the labor market. And now Trump’s Department of Education is just tweeting it out.
again, if i had a calculator that gave me the wrong answer one (1) time, i would throw it out and never use it again and could probably bankrupt the company by simply telling people what happened
Gotta love the “or stocks” part. Like Gemini realized its first answer was nuts so it tried to wedge in a better one.
Also, if you are a cis person and you actually think this is about trans people, I'd be happy to inform you that it's not. Conservatives want to police gender for everyone. It's the skeleton key to their entire political project. It won't just affect trans people. It'll affect you, too.
If you're a cis person insisting that the prospect of trans children playing youth sports is not only "a problem" but in fact one of the biggest problems we currently face as a nation, I'd be happy to introduce you to literally a million other things that should be worrying you more.
Whenever I see something like this, I always hope that the person is just doing a bit. Sadly, I haven't been right once so far.
He will never understand that being "the fat guy from Superbad" is infinitely better than being "the martial arts chud nobody likes"
The Archive but it's a videogame from 1998.
84-56, Vegas with the lead. Vegas is doing this on Atlanta's home court. Yikes.

I can imagine this guy scoffing at his grandkids' A.I. forgeries and telling them this story. "Back in MY day we didn't use new-fangled A.I. to con people. We BUILT our ruses with our own TWO HANDS. "Kids these days. Their hoaxes are so soulless." newsable.asianetnews.com/world/italia...

I would argue it's not really about trans people at all. It's an excuse to impose a regimented gender essentialism on everyone. Anti-trans bigots do not care about girls or women. They care about getting to define who is a girl, or a woman, for everyone.
the obsession with trans women in sports is, apart from the abject bigotry, a symptom of how we take amateur sports participation way too seriously in this country.
Bullies always want you to do something they can't actually make you do. Figure out what that is--it's usually not hard!--and then don't do it. He says "don't ever talk again." Talk again. And again. He can't actually make you be quiet. Prove to him that he can't. That's how you handle a bully.
Trump says Jeanine Pirro "choked" and then snaps at a reporter who asks if her job is safe: "Don't ever talk again"
Anyone who actually knows basketball knows how ludicrous this is. This is what misogyny does to your brain.
Clay Travis Offers to Pay WNBA Champions $10 Million If They Can Beat a Boys’ High School Basketball Team
A common thread linking this ridiculous assertion by vapid MLB players and a lot of other stuff in our present era (including A.I.) is a widespread fear of uncertainty. I actually hear students say "I don't know" or "I'm not sure" a lot less than I used to, and I don't think this is coincidence.
"babe ruth didn't exist" has got me thinking now. was IMAX even invented by the time homer wrote the odyssey

I think it’s hard to argue either that lockdowns were bad policy or that learning loss wasn’t real. We just have a society that makes no allowances for emergencies and affords no chance of making up. A lot of people are very mad about the effects of that without having any inclination to change it.
The number of points Sophie Cunningham scores is irrelevant to the validity of her argument about trans people. Scoring fewer points doesn't make her more wrong, scoring more doesn't make her more right. She is wrong about trans people, no matter her stats.
How are you going to be out here demanding ppl care what you think while scoring 3 points off the bench? Your career is literally a scorer error
This is not how a normal, healthy, pro-social human being talks about anything, let alone an assault accusation.
Rep. Max Miller: "My former wife has claimed that during a custody exchange at my home that day, I assaulted her…If I had assaulted her, would she have offered to cook me dinner six days later?"
