"Women accounted for 100 percent of the decline in the labor force in July, according to a National Women’s Law Center analysis of the Bureau of Labor Statistics’s latest dismal jobs report. Overall, the economy lost 23,000 jobs in July: Women lost 32,000 jobs, while men gained 9,000."
Trump’s Terrible July Jobs Numbers Only Hurt Women
And the number of women who have left the workforce since January is more than double the number of men.

I would like to propose the Taco Bell Principle When a person/institution Did A Problem, & IMMEDIATELY fesses up & takes proactive steps to solve it That's exactly what we want them to do? So how bout we let them live ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
A quick word on Taco Bell: That's where we found the suspected lettuce, and it's not bc Taco Bell is gross. It's bc Taco Bell is REALLY GOOD at tracing product! Keeping track of exactly where they got their ingredients, & exactly what restaurants each shipment of ingredients went to!
I'm excited to see what comes of this very cool initiative! And also humbled that I played a small behind-the-scenes role writing about some of these incredible species for Re:wild. Let's bring them back from the brink!

Please stop saying “lockdowns.” There were never true lockdowns in the US, and it fuels far right narratives to repeat this inaccurate statement. You can say closures, you can say restrictions, or better, you can say public health measures which saved many lives.
People still complain about “lockdowns” but we had none in the US. We had stay-at-home orders, where although businesses were closed, you could still go outside whenever you wanted. Other countries had far stricter rules, and yet have been much more accepting of them as they saved many more lives.
Say Julian Bailey’s name in the same breath as Alex Pretti and Renee Good. They were all senselessly murdered by Trump’s federal agents.
Julian Bailey's widow finally received the autopsy report in his death this week. The findings? U.S. Marshals shot him six times in the back. www.wusa9.com/article/news...
The diarrhea lettuce company, Taylor Farms, uses slave labor contracted from the Arizona Dept. of Corrections. The backbreaking labor is often performed by imprisoned Mexican nationals who would be otherwise ineligble to work in the US. They are paid $1.50 an hour.
The Diarrhea Lettuce Company Has Been Linked to Forced Labor
The lettuce-producing Taylor Farms was linked to the widespread use of prison labor before its involvement in a cyclospora outbreak.

For writers worried that they won't be able to "prove" their work isn't Spicy Autocomplete--worry not. You thought about every choice and will be able to talk about those choices easily and clearly. Folks who used the slop machine didn't make choices and won't have anything to say about why
I know this tactic isn’t new for this administration, but I’m shocked by it every time. Imagine just being dropped off on a different continent from where you grew up—no contacts, no common language, nothing. This is absolutely unconscionable.
As expected, this Eastern ICE flight has now landed in Bangui, Central African Republic. This is a third-country removal. I don’t know how many people are onboard, but there is at least one man from Nepal. Previously, people from Iran, Iraq, and Afghanistan were expelled here.
As of this week, hundreds of thousands of Haitians lost their legal status. Most have lost work permits as well. That's left many people unable to support themselves. Here is a verified link to a fundraiser supporting Haitians in Springfield. Please drop links to other fundraisers in the replies.

People who are suddenly deported to countries they haven’t been to for years — or, in some cases, have NEVER been to — are incredibly vulnerable. We are going to be reading stories like this for years. God have mercy on their three little girls.

interesting to me that as the administration treats democratic-voting states like conquered or occupied territories, you don’t have pundits demanding the president respect “half the country”

Insane new research. Scientists gave asthma patients free electric stoves to replace their gas stoves, then checked to see if symptoms improved. Not only did symptoms improve, ditching gas was *better than medicine.* Details in today's newsletter: www.climatecoloredgoggles.com/p/electric-s...

I’ve reported at length about abuses of foreign farmworkers who come to the U.S. on H-2A visas: stolen wages, guns pointed in their faces. One woman I met was kidnapped, raped and nearly killed. I wanted to know: How do I tell if the produce I buy is part of the problem? 👇

For the last year and a half, DoorDash has been silent as delivery drivers in DC have been hunted in the streets and even killed by ICE and other federal police. Now, the company has come out in support of #HR9720 — the blatant attack on DC Home Rule — just so it can earn more money.

ICE is quietly arresting more people than ever. After months of releasing no detention data at all, the new numbers show a record 1,474 arrests a day in early July, the highest daily pace of the entire Trump administration. 🧵 austinkocher.substack.com/p/ice-quietl...
ICE Quietly Arresting More People Than Ever According to Latest Data
NEW DATA ALERT 🚨 After months of data silence, ICE's new numbers show 65,765 people in immigration detention, deportations near 1,250 a day, and arrests now at 1,473 a day.

This is a good example of the fear that ICE has engendered in so many. A man here completely legally with nothing (on paper) to fear from ICE took off running when they showed up at a gas station and was struck by a passing truck. Awful.

People are shocked when they come to DC now and see groups of fully armed soldiers patrolling our neighborhoods. Trump's occupation of DC has been going on for nearly a year — and he wants it to go on forever. We refuse to allow this to become normalized and continue to call for it to end.

A perfect encapsulation of how I’ve been feeling these last few days. I wanted to take my young daughter to the beach today (she’s been asking to go for months), but the air is still toxic so I guess we’ll just…hang out inside instead 😡
We are given only a limited number of truly perfect summer days in our time on Earth. One of the more insidious cruelties of fossil fuel greed is how it slowly strips those days from us, more and more throughout our lifetimes, perhaps without us even realizing what we have lost.
This lettuce is literally everywhere and usually it’s in contexts where no one knows/discloses it. Taco Bell is one of the only places doing the right, proactive thing here and misleading headlines are flipping things around making seem like they’re a site of danger instead.
This framing is so disgusting and irresponsible. Yes, Taylor Farms supplies Taco Bell. THEY ALSO SUPPLY TONS OF OTHER RESTAURANTS AND GROCERY STORES. People will take "avoid Taco Bell" as the lesson which is NOT HELPFUL. www.wcvb.com/article/cycl...
Republicans in Congress are threatening Canada's sovereignty over climate change fueled wildfires. Here's how much money they've taken from the fossil fuel industry recently. James: $308k+ Bergman: $175k+ McClain: $105k+ Moolenaar: $133k+ - oh and he's a climate denier. Completely shameless.
