$81 million would fund 50 cancer research labs (or infectious disease, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, regenerative medicine, etc.) for the next five years as it stands, many of those unfunded labs are closing I can’t applaud a system that spends so much to achieve so little

I have, with my own eyes, watched my tax dollars in the form of missiles as they hit buildings inhabited by civilians. I'd much prefer subsidizing a grocery story I don't use.

Humans are notoriously bad at telling the difference between "bad thing didn't happen to me because I minimized the risk" and "bad thing didn't happen to me therefore the risk was minimal" and Republicans prey on that.

i once sat in my ambulance with a patient for 10 hours because there were no ER beds because there were no beds available anywhere in the hospital we ran through every O2 tank we had and the hospital was so low on O2 tanks that they couldn’t give us a new one

Americans talk about “lockdowns” as though we experienced a uniform national policy. We didn’t! We had a patchwork of state and local responses. Treating “lockdown” as the single explanation for everything that followed erases that complexity AND the deeper problems that long predated COVID.
I worked for New York’s largest medical center at the start of the pandemic. There were morgue trucks on the streets. They set up emergency medical tents in Central Park. Healthcare worker colleagues died. It is horrific that RFK Jr is on national TV lying that ICUs were empty.
So Tillis and Cornyn’s position is that the slush fund and IRS immunity is disgusting, illegal, immoral, and unethical but they are willing to confirm the man who agreed to it as Attorney General of the United States as long as he takes it back.
