Before Oct 7 2023 Israel had for 16 years imposed a brutal blockade of Gaza, a criminal siege, which it called "putting Gazans on a diet" which was in reality a relentless assault on the most vulnerable people of Gaza, denying them basic necessities of life.
This. This this this this this this this. Gaza was not a withdrawal to grant Palestinians autonomy, it is a siege. At best a ghetto. The goal was to kill off the Palestinians in a way without being accused of genocide. But the goal has always been genocide.
