MicroSeq2026 is an online meeting being held on September 2nd and 3rd, focused on research being conducted on sequencing data generated from microbiological samples (bacteria, fungi, and viruses). MicroSeq2026's cash prizes for best talk ($150) and best lightning talk ($50) are sponsored by The Australian Society for Microbiology. Abstract: AI jargon are growing faster than a shared understanding of these terms can keep up. What do we mean when we talk about AI? How do AI, GenAI, and machine learning differ? And how do LLMs, coding agents, MCP, and skills relate to each other?
 
In this session, I want to share my perspective on AI terms and definitions and show how these different technologies and terms map together. I'll also highlight where terms have become overloaded as the underlying technology has rapidly shifted. The session is built around discussion and debate with the goal of improving our shared vocabulary in this space.

I'm building a genome database that includes as many terrestrial Australian arthropods as I can find- this is a tool that I hope to use to clairify the diet of native mammals from faecal samples. If you or anyone you know might have some unique genomes that are not on NCBI, please get in touch.
