In 1946 Britain's debt stood near 250% of GDP. Bread was still rationed. Within two years the government had opened the NHS and launched the largest house building programme in its history. Today, at just under 95%, ministers say that we cannot afford to do anything close to this. Why?

And where the model cannot settle a question, it says so and points at someone who can: Berkeley, Ryan-Collins, Tye, Voldsgaard & Wilson, who traced the actual UK machinery.

Musk is trying to normalize selective empathy (he’s said that empathy is the West’s “greatest weakness”), because an expanded and inclusive view of humanity is one of the common features of people with moral courage. To recruit ppl to his project, he needs them to think and be small, like him.

Huge corporations like Amazon, Walmart, and Uber are among the top employers of SNAP and Medicaid recipients. Meanwhile, their CEOs are raking in multi-million dollar pay packages. How is this not a bigger scandal?

Nigel Farage's approval ratings have now sunk even lower than Keir Starmer's before he resigned, yet we're still being encouraged to believe he has some kind of magic connection with the British public

Universities and students are not enclosed units, ivory towers separate from the rest of their local communities. They eat and drink (a lot) including spending lots of money in local pubs and restaurants. They shop. They get buses, taxis and Ubers. They put money into local economies.
