It's a mood. Take it or leave it. 🇳🇿

Looking through some old stuff and found this cartoon I cut out c1996. They just never really have new ideas, just new packaging. (For younger readers - right wing think tank the NZ Initiative formed out of a merger of the NZ Business Roundtable and the NZ Institute in 2012.)

Photo of a black and white cartoon with a bunch of men sitting around an executive board table. A sign in front reads “Quiet please, Roundtable in session”. From left to right they are saying:
“The govt should get out of education and health…”
“We need more contestability in social welfare…”
“the govt should sell ACC and the post office…”
“We should privatise electricity and roading…”
“Seen the polls? Winston could be the next PM”
“That’s disgraceful. What happened to the New Zealand we all knew and loved?”

"National leader Christopher Luxon did not want taxpayer funding going into a "white elephant" that was not commercially viable. "Of course we're very committed to our 17 roads of national significance and we make no apology for that." Hmmm which one is a white elephant? #nzpol

"There were far too many things that were done in a secretive and unethical way," she said. "Too many financial interests that have no business in that space." “work on the curriculum was heavily politicised and several of the ministry insiders who contacted RNZ made similar allegations.” #nzpol

All of the three parties in the coalition have indulged in providing a streamlined gateway for anti-evidence groups to get their fringe ideas written into policy. The most anti science, anti research, anti expertise government we’ve had in living memory. www.stuff.co.nz/politics/361...

NZ First’s health policy copy-pasted from advocacy group’s website

Today we launched the first prototype of a plastic-free floating wetland. Wetland plants can help to improve water quality by sucking out excess nutrients. There are plenty of tuna in here but none of them are in very good condition. The dream is to be able manage this pond for mahinga kai.

Mohi modelling the floating wetland. The frame is bamboo found on site, lashed together with harakeke and topped with jute sacks donated by Whittaker's.Juncus, Carex sexta and water cress on the island. The island from another angle.

MKII will use giant bamboo, lashed together to make a more solid platform with the jute sacks over the top.
