Saw a bit on MSNow recently about how AES was winning in part because of Medicare for All, but the pundit talked to voters and "they don't understand the policy, they just hear it as having a right to health care." 1) great! 2) Has lack of "understanding" policy ever applied to Trump voters?

RE: the last screenshot, on Doug Burgum: It's worth noting that Burgum ended up being the point man in Trump's war against wind power, and so had to get comfortable blatantly and publicly lying to do that. Once you start getting comfortable with it, future instances become easy.

He wants her to consciously *throw out* exculpatory facts and *knowingly* prosecute innocent people. So facts can't persuade him by definition. Campaigns are mean and nasty and both sides usually are to an extent. This race was a superb example of that and it was a bit precious of either side to behave like that wasn't true. But in the end, they bury the hatchet.

we can never know because the polling ended up so off but given the result, it seems almost certain a majority of Democrats in Michigan had favourable views of both Stevens and AES, probably by a solid margin. Which... makes sense, given they're very similar on most issues!

I suppose it could have been DGAF mode, but it always seemed odd that Whitmer and Peters would throw in for Stevens if they were just doing a Hail Mary. Clearly, the private polling thought she was still competitive and that was right.

El-Sayed's biggest problem in the general will not be what most people think. It'll be that he's not as well known as his virality suggests. Fix that and you've got a senator. You're welcome and good night.

Even the Indy polls in Michigan got over their skis. Michigan is just tough to poll and its primaries even moreso.
Schnorkles O'Bork@schnorkles.bsky.social · 12h agoThis gets said in almost every close election. Primary polls are notoriously messy and are often not done by anyone who can actually field a poll. You're basically using some El-sayed internals and a couple of low end polls to declare the entire industry dead.
This probably weakens his ability to resist the inevitable summary judgment motion on actual malice.

Food, man. Food is so much better than it was in 1986. All of it. Poor-people food, restaurant food, fresh food, frozen food. Food is just a hell of a lot better.
Speaking of which, the margin is now down to less than 26,000 votes, or less than 2%. Regardless of who ultimately wins, it's safe to say that the entire polling industry looks like a bunch of jackasses right now.
Not even 9k votes were cast in the 2024 Dem primary on 8/6/24.

Mamdani is like the Platonic ideal of a solid bro, a loyal wingman. El-Sayed is the friend who mostly means well, but is kind of full of himself such that you worry he'll try to pick up the person he's supposed be helping you chat up.
