Had a TERF troll come to my event at Edinburgh today, who wanted to defend the “lovely Jo Rowling” during my q&a. Reader, my reply was impassioned. I didn’t insult her or call her a name; but I robustly and heatedly defended the lives of young trans people against very unlovely billionaires.

I spoke about being queer in a religious upbringing to 200 Scottish teens at book event this afternoon. Had seven (yes, seven) queer students and two trans students come out to me quietly in the signing queue afterwards, one of them in tears. I will never forgive those who make their lives so hard.

I appreciate that Dolly Parton refused to participate in "dress respectability" and, by her own account, modeled her aesthetic after a town "tramp," who she thought was beautiful. She separated aesthetics from character and understood "classiness" to be about how you treat people, not how you dress.
