Tbc there is a very big difference between 'the fictional character is a bad person' and 'the author of this work thinks minorities are subhuman' and it's pretty easy to distinguish.
I see this so much tbh, 'the world is already bad why would I want to read about bad things happening!!!!' Well that's not what art is for. Fiction doesn't solely exist to soothe and comfort you.

...was ever considered a prominent, authoritative or leading figure in "trans activism". So yes, my tone is a bit vituperative here. I'm not sorry.
And even if that were not the case, I cannot comprehend exactly how a self-centered careerist void of empathy, who dedicated an entire chapter to how #MeToo destroyed their dream job and won't anyone think of how much they suffered because the cis male lead of their show harassed some trans women...
We now inhabit a world where the reactionary appetite for punishing, vilifying and excluding trans people from society is insatiable, coexisting with unprecedented levels of awareness about us and about transition. The world of "We may be males but please be nice to us anyway" is dead.
Bluntly, the elevation of trans voices whose desire for acceptance by conservative figures and cultures outweighs their solidarity and support of their siblings is both so predictable as so be soporifically boring and absolutely untenable, uniquely unsuited to meeting the current moment.
There's a chance that people might consider some of the things I say here to be excessively vicious. I want to emphasize that I consider the politics espoused to be so self-defeating, utterly without merit, and yet so ubiquitous and constantly reiterated that I have to repudiate them harshly.

But is that actually the case? Emma and Talia discuss the text, and whether anyone reads the works they recommend!
