Did You Know? Your state can ban the electroshock gloves! Since prisons, jails, police, sheriffs, and SCHOOLS are psyched for this corporal punishment device And people seem to hate the gloves (& ICE) And they're not yet prevalent it's probably not a heavy lift! It won't stop ICE but will help

With the horrific news about ICE using torture gloves, we're reminded of police use of cattle prods against voting rights activists in the 1960s -- as in 📷 of Roy Wilkins & Medgar Evers, 11 days before Evers was murdered 💔 #TeachTruth about policing history 🧵 www.zinnedproject.org/materials/ev...

I'm really trying to understand the need to whitewash white ppl all time. This is why we're facing the levels of narcissism on our streets today. I'm not a lockemup gal. But, can we not do this?! Tell the whole story instead. Karoline lied w/o blinking and is nice to ppl she thinks have power.

onekade@onekade.bsky.social · 2d ago

Re reporters saying Karoline is super normal off camera: I'll never forget the time I was on television with an anti-immigration think tank person. She lied like she breathed on air. Afterward, I said, you know none of that is true, right? She smiled and said something like, that's not the point.

New: We pieced together dozens of violent incidents from the ICE agents seen in viral videos from Virginia this week. They've roamed across multiple states, but are most often working in Chicago. We also verified the identity of Martin Lagunas, the fed who pointed his gun at a woman on Monday:

amid all the "woke 1" discourse that really did not need to happen in the way it has, I recalled that last year I asked a bunch of organizers and thinkers to reflect on 2020 and the collective possibilities it laid bare for us, and not a one said it went too far

What the 2020 Protests Can Teach Us About Protesting Today

"It is up to us to change everything. But, against the doomers, I believe in this moment we may be uniquely poised to do so."

Unfortunately, this has not been true for Black and Indigenous ppl. They have historically been wrongly targeted for prosecution and NO ONE was held accountable for these actions. If we don't remember all the history, our solutions will remain incomplete at best and non-solutions at worst.

There’s always been corruption in the US government When it happened though there was an investigative body that would root out and arrest the perpetrators and get the convicted in a cordial law Now the corruption lies in the bodys that are supposed to investigate the criminals DOJ FBI ICE DHS

Jordan’s best option among plans is the Income-Contingent Repayment, and under this plan, her new monthly payment is $3,900, almost five times the original amount. “There’s no way on God’s green Earth I can afford that payment,” she said. Jordan is 70. www.thenation.com/article/econ...

THREAD. As you read chilling stories emerging about the illegal surveillance that Trump's DHS has been doing, recognize that federal law makes it nearly impossible for victims to sue feds for constitutional violations. A minimum part of Democratic platform should call for this.

U.S. Investigated Left-Leaning Groups During Minnesota Immigration Crackdown

The government conducted expansive surveillance, infiltrated group chats and obtained financial records of organizations never accused of crimes.

The Virginia stuff aside, the premise of the headline is true only in the sense that "if we stop testing, we'll have fewer Covid cases" is true. Courts close cases after execution. Prosecutors destroy files and evidence. Innocence groups have to focus on the living.

Death Penalty Supporters Say There’s No Proof of the Innocent Being Executed. Virginia Might Prove Them Wrong.

The possibility of executing the innocent has gone a long way to change the national conversation about the death penalty.

Dem's always get freaked out by the progressives/Democratic socialists. They really do suck at reading the room. Americans are sick of the corruption and ineffectiveness, that's why Mamdani and other progressives are winning.

"Dahl said the license plate reader technology some Chicago-area school districts are using is among the most sophisticated and invasive forms of surveillance available. In fact, it's the same technology ICE uses in some immigration investigations, and it isn't foolproof."

“An NBC 5 Responds investigation found dozens of local school districts are using increasingly sophisticated tools to verify where families live, including license plate reader cameras.”

THREAD. Contrary to what you are being told, 40 years of polling have established that shifting money away from police/prisons toward social services is one of the most popular public policies among *all* political demographics. But it's not just that, it goes way deeper.

I’m seeing a lot of people hang their hopes and all their attention on the midterms. Electoral organizing matters, but full-time spectatorship won’t build the power we need. I wrote about checking in with yourself about where your attention is going and what you’re doing with it.

Resisting Total Electoral Absorption

It may be worth checking in with ourselves, from time to time, about what, if anything, our attention is cultivating.
