NEW: Democratic Congress member Ritchie Torres is introducing legislation in Congress to regulate digital video game ownership. "A game that can be taken away the moment a company pulls the plug is not a purchase. It is a rental disguised as a sale."

Rep. Ritchie Torres Announces Congressional Legislation To Protect Video Game Ownership: 'If You Pay For It, You Own It'

The Power To The Players Act would put an end to digital game licenses

if AI makes something easy that used to be hard, then anything you do with it is not notable, because anyone could do it. I did the dishes well this morning, but I'm not writing a press release or charging admission to watch me next time because anyone could do it just as well. It's not notable.

so Epic, a company that's only notable because they had a team that was exceptionally good at programming, announced that they're decided not to try to be good at it anymore because it's too hard. If they're not a team of people who are good at a hard thing, what purpose do they serve in the world?

This picture will always be iconic. RIP Margaret Hamilton who wrote the software that successfully guided NASA’s Apollo missions through the moon.

There could be zero new media made for the rest of my life and I STILL wouldn't be able to read every book, watch every movie, listen to every song, watch every youtube video, and play every game that I'd want to. So why in the world would I ever need to engage with AI content?

I have never known a cat who was good at the marshmallow experiment before. But Commodore Welcome is fascinatingly patient when she thinks there's a reward coming. And then obviously you have to reward it because it's adorable. So both of us are trained here and it's fine.

Of all of my cat's behaviors that are endearing, the thing in the morning when she sits patiently next to me while I finish my coffee (sometimes for an hour), poised to pounce the second I stand, to entice me to play with her is the most endearing.

The problem with using “good game design” to back up your personal taste is that it tends to rely on the idea that good game design is somehow singular, which is more wrong than I can fit on the screen.

I can't stop thinking about how there's a bunch of full grown people so obsessed with the idea that their computer program has a soul that they lobbied the church to validate it, and these are people our society takes seriously on any subject at all.

this is a really fantastic piece of writing that hits at something kind of deep about class and culture "How much are CEO memes impacting our lives? Did we get forced to return to the office because they heard a little story about productivity being better at a dinner party?"

Trying out doing some writing. Really nice writing something that’s not code for a change alexandereverett.substack.com/p/three-ceos...

actually the funniest part about this feeble attempt to rename "AI" to "SI" is that the entire reason it's called "AI" is to create a false link to fictional depictions of AI and the term "SI" doesn't mean anything to anyone
