anyway the reason you know this isn’t about “fairness” but rather “i wish MLB would hand my team a world series win” is because 24 months ago everyone was complaining that Steve Cohen ruined baseball, and then pivoted elsewhere when it turned out he’s not good at running a ballclub

It's absolutely insane we've somehow let the Covid recriminations debate become like "why didn't we reopen in person schools before there was a vaccine" and not "why did none of the trump guys go to jail for stealing PPE from New York hospitals in March 2020"

i am begging you — including some of you who follow me that i'm seeing in the OP QTs — to actually read what senate democrats are getting out of this and to stop and think for, like, at least 90 seconds, about what *else* you think a minority party *in both chambers* can squeeze out of the majority

stripping OMB of the ability to dole out grants is an enormous win, this nukes the SAVE act, it prohibits further ICE bailouts, adding a "no, really, trump can't break already on-the-books laws regarding elections the federal government doesn't run" clause would be both unnecessary and unproductive

it’s pretty obvious that a lot of people remember that COVID lockdowns were unpleasant and from there just extrapolate that they were therefore bad policy

One drum I keep beating is that the Trumpification of the Republican Party is irreversible. Even after he's gone it will be exclusively cranks, charlatans, and malevolent antisocial goons. "It was always like that"-it wasn't! It's gotten steadily, measurably worse, and he was the nail in the coffin

New, from me: It is fine to disagree with aspects of the pandemic response. But what we saw at Fauci's hearing was something different: a show trial where cranks tried to threaten and shift blame to an public servant. Here is why this is bad for all of us.🧵 donmoynihan.substack.com/p/watching-t...

The overwhelming right wing sentiment is that COVID was an engineered bioweapon that was also harmless. Trump overreacted to it by shutting down the country, then engineered a drive to create a vaccine that was the real bioweapon that killed millions, and it's Joe Biden's fault.

I barely go on the other site anymore but I just hopped over there for something and I can't describe the existential dread I felt being greeted immediately with this at the top of my timeline. I hate everything about it.

Of note, this study is about articles from PLOS journals who allow authors to decide whehter review reviews will be openly published alongside the article (very first sentence of paper). With this information, your DAG looks very different than with the information from the post / headline below.

Papers with publicly available peer-review reports are less likely to be retracted than are those without public reports, a new study has found. My latest for @nature.com: www.nature.com/articles/d41... @aidybarnett.bsky.social, @jeroenson.bsky.social, @jessicapolka.bsky.social

All the Fauci stuff is a modern day version of the POW/MIA stuff after Vietnam - a way to try to rewrite the history of a huge failure of conservative ideology to be instead a story about how liberals and foreigners stabbed us in the back.
