Shatterhand is such a well-made, well-executed NES game I was surprised to learn it's a reskin of a licensed tokusatsu game that barely adheres to its source material. Beyond the cheesy concept and 90s-awesome box art, it's a solid action platformer with fun ideas! #gaming #videogames #retrogames

Videogames with annoying audio call-outs in arcades. Danny Sullivan's Indy Heat, Leland 1991: "And the winner is... (pause) Danny Sullivan's team!" Spiderman, Sega 1991, certain defeated enemies: "OOOOOOOooooooooo!" Ironman Ivan Stewart's Off Road, Leland 1989: That God damned air horn. #arcade

absolute all time champ for this specific mechanic is Super Sprint. the steering wheels are so satisfying to spin and the cars are impossibly responsive. like steering a high DPS mouse cursor around. if you know what you're doing each lap takes like 6 deconds. really fun and hilarious with 3 players

In Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, green trampolines make Mario jump so high he goes offscreen for 6 seconds. By extracting his position values from the code, we can "zoom out" the stage and visualize his actual arc, which reveals just how absurdly high the jump is.

Jump Height: 1186 pixels (5 vertical screens)
Jump Distance: 900 pixels (3.5 horizontal screens)
Jump Duration: 360 frames (6 seconds)
