I have never received so much positive affirmation on a project, and y'all. It makes such a difference.

The United States is taking aim at Canada once again, with a crushing new set of tariffs. Ultimately, government will need to solve this. But in the same way Canadians are avoiding US alcohol, produce, and other goods, they should get off US tech products too. Luckily, I have a guide for that.
Getting off US tech: a guide
I’m in the process of dropping US tech services. Here’s how I did it, and options you should consider.

ordinary people have no idea the system is such a kafkaesque nightmare
Tomorrow's handout for my Immigration 101 lecture is really throwing the students in the deep end.
Sexual assault deemed a worker comp case. I don't have the words.
4 days ago The Pentagon fired the editor in chief of Stars and Stripes. Yesterday they broke the story of Elsie Dominguez, a civilian engineer who was raped repeatedly by the Captain of a Navy ship she was on. They keep trying to silence the press & quash the truth. Elsie’s story must be told:
We said this was coming. And everyone has a responsibility to help our peoples repel this invasion.
This is so upsetting to see. We should all be standing with the Tohono O'odham Nation against this obvious violation.

Russell Vought has been deleting some of your comments on the proposed OMB rule to politicize grantmaking. Particularly ones that mention him by name and that his daughter was treated for CF with an NIH-funded therapeutic.

I’m on All Things Considered today talking about right-wing extremism & the WNBA. I believe it airs again at 6:30 PM ET
@thefrankiedlc.news nice commentary on the NPR WNBA piece!
Besides the absolute stupidity, this feels... Economically foolish if you think democracy will continue to be a thing. 🫠
This is interesting. A brand openly announcing it will only be available in Republican-led states.

It's not just tumbling enrollment. Graduate programs rely on foreign students to sustain *critical mass.* Many (if not most) would collapse after a sudden 30% drop in enrollment. They think they're creating space for white, U.S.-born students, but they're actually destroying their own schools.
An administrator on the flagship campus offered that estimate as part of a federal lawsuit, filed this month, against a new four-year limit on student visas. https://chroni.cl/4wMDqgw
I appreciate that Dolly Parton refused to participate in "dress respectability" and, by her own account, modeled her aesthetic after a town "tramp," who she thought was beautiful. She separated aesthetics from character and understood "classiness" to be about how you treat people, not how you dress.
I also feel like I have to admit - there are many more fountain pens in my life (in my house, in my bags), but these two got to travel with me because they are two of my current favorites.
The world, large and small, is so much right now. So many tiny joy is working through my projects with my happy pens.

I really cannot think of a greater honor than to have the Muppets say this about you upon your passing
Tim Curry?? 😣 What is this week right now
RIP king…nobody played baddies like you. 💔
When a good and decent person leaves this world, I think the best thing we can do to honor them is to try to put even more goodness and decency into the world. It's not that we can replace them or their contribution. It's just that we need it all the more now that they're gone.
Also, I highly recommend the amazing podcast Dolly Parton's America, which is full of tremendous reporting and unusual insight, as well as a terrific interview with Dolly: www.wnycstudios.org/podcasts/dol...

It’s not fair. It’s not fair that someone this good, this beloved, leaves the world while monsters still walk in it.

A lot of people have Sarah Connor on this list, and I feel like it's important news that Judgement Day is both 1) shortly upon us and 2) my birthday
Name your fav Sarah.
ALSO: can we all agree that “a difficult book” doesn’t have to mean “makes you reexperience racist trauma”?? Like: Crime and punishment is difficult (bc long and dense), Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead is difficult (bc experimental and “moral”/theme isn’t immediately obvious)
I have too many wonderful Sarahs in my life to pick a favorite.
