It's not just tumbling enrollment. Graduate programs rely on foreign students to sustain *critical mass.* Many (if not most) would collapse after a sudden 30% drop in enrollment. They think they're creating space for white, U.S.-born students, but they're actually destroying their own schools.

I appreciate that Dolly Parton refused to participate in "dress respectability" and, by her own account, modeled her aesthetic after a town "tramp," who she thought was beautiful. She separated aesthetics from character and understood "classiness" to be about how you treat people, not how you dress.

ALSO: can we all agree that “a difficult book” doesn’t have to mean “makes you reexperience racist trauma”?? Like: Crime and punishment is difficult (bc long and dense), Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead is difficult (bc experimental and “moral”/theme isn’t immediately obvious)
