That's what taxes are, man. That's the definition of taxes. "You are subsidizing things you might never use" man shut the fuck up. My taxes currently subsidize like oil company exec private jets, you think I'm upset at low-income people eating inexpensive bananas?

Part of where we have gone wrong in the UK and the US imo is snide criticism like Clarkson’s which leads to performatively cruel policy. At the same time the benefits bill is nuts and there are lots of people taking money who don’t need it and we need to sharpen policy. But not cruely for clicks.

I get some of the sentiment here but if all seems a bit silly. It would be good if people were less dependent on corporations and had more of their own skills. Not everyone needs to learn to bake bread but actually lots of people do like it. Meanwhile using ai to code isn’t the endtimes.

have people just completely forgotten that some things are fun/enjoyable to some people and not to others? i love baking my own bread! vast majority of people do not make their own bread and get it from a corporation producing it at scale with machines! i don’t shame them or look down on them!

Selective time travel is one of the most interesting aspects of SF narratives around time. A lot of shows will talk about “fixed points” in time, essentially to prevent the characters from strategically or logistically deploying time travel to dismantle the crisis the story is about.

What a terrible thread. There seems to be no acknowledgment that it’s in the “how we do it” that all the sustainability issues lie. So of course, we can use LLMs as a way of finding documentation or even patterns but deep knowledge is what we need to build sustainable systems.
