In so many states, policies and climate seek to silence all aspects of their literacies, even the idea that literacy is so multifaceted. Censorship is the obvious part, but even science of reading ignores identity, sociocultural contexts, histories, and the like. 1/2 #literacies

I hope Black girls can be seen, heard, valued, and loved. I hope folks allow them to write themselves into the future, preparing, intentionally, and recognizing they deserve more rigor than they're receiving in schools right now. They deserve love through activities that are worth their time.

So much of my work alongside Black girls has including my own journey of becoming reliable (Hill, 2025); becoming someone who loved themselves in their presence; becoming curious about my own biases and assumptions, listening, disrupting hierarchies of whose knowledge counts. I've come to understand it as the ways in which Black girls make meaning. The ways in which they read the word and the world (Freire, 1970), including traditional print reading and writing and very expansive notions of knowledge generation and rendering through multiple modalities.

A4: I learn most when in community with others. It's important for me to construct learning around group activities within my teaching. Whether posing imaginary scenarios to PSTs or asking students to take the perspective of a literary character, I find most comfort in collaboration. #literacies

A4. I want to emphasize our interdependence with each other (b/c we're all we've got and fascism thrives on feelings of isolation), so embedding class with plenty of moments for sharing, writing together, providing feedback, revising in pairs, etc. #literacies
