—Failing to meet expectations since 1977– Political refugee from Texas. She/her. Mostly looking after house and family. Very pointedly avoiding restarting an art business. I just want to make stuff.

The religious right is steadily expanding its definition of what is sexual — and restricting what it deems acceptable in public spaces. Tech companies, in want of less oversight, are taking the hint. The deplatforming that started with sex workers / kink / trans has come for gay bars.

New: As gay bars across the country say that Meta is flagging and deactivating their accounts without warning, I spoke to an Austin queer bar that says Meta nearly destroyed their ability to advertise events: www.chron.com/culture/arti...

Okay. So here's what I know - I lost my day job. - I hated my day job. - I liked having a lot of money and health insurance. - But a lot of money never made me happier, I just owned more stuff. - I do still need health insurance. - I'm really fucking good at lettering comic books.

AI isn't reliable enough to get even a hamburger order right, but reckless Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is pushing to expand artificial intelligence across the U.S. military, including AI-enabled targeting. "Would you like fries with that obliterated girls' school?"

This would not work because: 1) The men who follow an ideology that I am genetically inferior and incapable of self-governance frequent establishments that rely on de facto segregation. 2) These men are often in severely altered states due to a reliance on ketamine and other illegal substances.

The best cure for ideological bias is find someone on the other side and go to lunch with them.⁣ ⁣ Sometimes we disagree about facts. Sometimes we disagree about values. Figuring out which is which is fun part. https://newsletter.platypuseconomics.com/p/my-libertarian-friends-were-right

Alll of this. I started my career in construction, working office jobs alongside people who worked trades. Know how many 60-year-old guys I saw working as bricklayers? Doing demo? Zero. How many 50-year-old roofers there are? Zero. One reason unions fight for high wages is because careers are SHORT.

This is why I get pissed off when anyone accuses me of being an elitist when I say young people should go to college if they can. I say that because my dad was a local lineman and contractor who did heavy physical labor for years and has had chronic back pain since his early 30s

“how do we win back trump voters in 2026” we don’t. we create an environment where admitting to voting for trump is so socially embarrassing as to render them completely inert. you don’t “win back” trump voters. you demoralize them into staying home. you make it a dunce cap

i especially love all the dopes saying “when the internet first went mainstream everyone hated it too” like it happened in the pioneer days so no one can dispute it, like mf’ers we were THERE

Reminder: Not only is widespread voter fraud a Republican myth, but vote-by-mail is critical to safeguarding the voting rights of those with illnesses and disabilities, who may find waiting in an Election Day line to be physically taxing. These voting laws are key political determinants of health.

“The ultimate goal was to create chaos and doubt in the vote-by-mail process,” said the American Postal Workers Union president. “You’re creating a rule to solve a problem that doesn’t exist.”

I feel like in literally any other context, if you gave 6 figures to a teenager with no assets, income, credit, or work history, when said teenager struggled to pay back those 6 figures, you'd be told "you made a shitty deal, eat the loss, sucks to suck" but school is the exception for some reason

It’s really fucked up we told generations of kids they had to take out personal loans in order to improve their lives as we cut funding to schools and when that turned out to be bullshit the general consensus has been “fuck those kids”

fun fact: The Treaty of Tripoli, 1796, Signed by Prez John Adams, includes: "As the government of the United States of America is *not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion*, as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion or tranquility of [Muslims].." Just saying.

Just like when we say, "Hey, seems this dude is probably a piece of shit, maybe don't watch his Netflix special?" no one is suggesting calling the cops. You don't need to start invoking the language of jurisprudence. The state has nothing to do with this situation.

Gracklepalooza is winding down, but it’s been a good one this year! While most are gone, there are still a few around though! This male Common Grackle was flying to the next tree over, and wanted to make sure we got a good look at his “common” colours🤣 #Birds 🪶

A male common grackle flys against a dark background. He is flying right to left and his wings are down so we can see the gorgeous purple iridescence!
His head is a vibrant blue that sets off his yellow eye!
