Not to take away from his recent Pulitzer Prize for fiction, but @danielkraus.com also wrote a combination deep dive and personal memoir around Night of the Living Dead that I kept needing to close and put down just to absorb a particular sentence or two. Best read this year and it’s not even close.

A book with the title Partially Devoured: How Night of the Living Dead Saved My Life and Changed the World, by Daniel Kraus. The cover image shows Ben, the main character from the movie, played by Duane Jones, in profile with other characters in the background. The cover is a black background with red lettering.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, there's no mention of far-right terrorism (neither white supremacist nor anti-government) in the Trump administration’s new national counterterrorism strategy. Instead, the domestic focus is on "violent left-wing extremists" and "cartels and gangs."

Been waiting for this episode FOREVER — at least since the podcast started, but in my own way I’ve waited since the author of Grit spoke in my urban school district about how poor kids (& their teachers) just don’t WANT success enough. If you see me yelling & cackling in my car today, no you didn’t.

Had a great day with Alderperson Fuentes and Commissioner Vásquez talking to so many of our neighbors about the importance of electing Jason Dónes to the Chicago Board of Education this November. We need Jason on the Board as someone backed by community and ultimately accountable to our community.

Josh Weiner spent most of May Day with Nate Friedman, the brave sunglasses wearing YouTube pest who is sure all protesters get paid. (Guess who he often implies pays them. Come on. Guess.) I know Friedman has no shame, but Weiner appears to feel awkward chasing children around, as he should.

After railing against May Day as ‘coercion’ at a CPS board meeting, NAVI’s Josh Weiner was creeping on students as they marched into Union Park on May Day. He is not a CPS parent or an educator. His org targets teachers, seeks to ban curriculum, and demonizes LGBTQ+ resources, ethnic studies & DEI.

The Republicans control all three branches of government, the J6ers were all pardoned, right wingers own Twitter, Facebook, the Washington Post, CBS and CNN…right wing donors exert unprecedented influence over the nation’s universities, but sure, we’re on the verge of a Cultural Marxist revolution.

Breaking: America is experiencing a cultural marxist revolutionary takeover.
Cultural Marxism did not arrive with a manifesto or a revolution. It moved quietly into our schools, our newsrooms, our corporations, and our churches over the course of decades.
Most Americans never saw it coming because they were never supposed to.
I wrote this piece to name it plainly, to educate, to trace where it came from, and show exactly where it lives today.
Read it and share it widely.

Amisha Patel, former ED of Grassroots Collaborative and lifelong organizer, has passed away. Last month, she penned this essay about her cancer fight as an analogy for organizing struggles: "...how do we build a long-term vision that we can strive toward together, even in the hardest of times?"

Fighting Cancer Has Given Me New Insights on the Anti-Fascist Challenge We Face

To resist authoritarianism, our work must be deeply relational. We must act even in uncertainty. Nurturing builds power.
