also, 99.9% of examples people give of risks are things people can already do easily. not going to name examples, but like, people already do the bad things LLMs supposedly enable. often it’s worry about the proletariat doing things the ruling class threatens to do or actually does every day

increasingly it seems like the only real answer to this is to find ways of ensuring guaranteed income for people. imo we are reaching a point where people who want to build or do things will be able to - unrestrained by skills - and there will be a lot of people who will no longer need to work

Saying AI is real and powerful and unlikely to go anywhere isn’t making a moral argument for it. In fact my point is, as I said earlier today, that we have to make our decisions about how to act morally in the context of a world in which AI simply exists, is powerful and isn’t going anywhere.
