On Fri night, Brooklyn court staff forced a woman to give birth inside the courtroom. Per public defenders, she gave birth in handcuffs, unable to reposition herself, unable to pick up her infant. The men who’d shackled her looked on. The judge lauded the birth of a ‘beautiful baby’ on the record.

MIFE UPDATE: A federal court has ruled that Mifepristone — one of the two medications used in medication abortion (“the abortion pill”) — can no longer be mailed. This applies nationwide. For now, mifepristone cannot be mailed and must be dispensed in person.

We heard that "progressive" Councilmember Gale Brewer is considering changing her vote on 175-B (she abstained in the first round). Give her a quick call TODAY (before 5pm) to demand she vote NO on 175-B so that the mayor's veto holds! 212-873-0282

“Hi my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [neighborhood] calling to urge CM Brewer to uphold the Mayor’s veto of Intro 175-B and vote NO on any override.
If passed, 175-B would infringe on our First Amendment rights and increase police presence at any buildings where educational activities are taking place. It would harm workers’ rights to picket and force Black, brown, and immigrant students and workers into more contact with law enforcement.
Instead of this dangerous bill, I ask CM Brewer to fight for real, evidence-based solutions for safeguarding New Yorkers, such as the NYC Against Hate Violence policy platform. Please stand firm and fight for labor unions, community organizations, students, educators, and all New Yorkers who believe in our constitutional right to protest safely. I am counting on CM Brewer to vote NO on an override and uphold the Mayor’s veto of 175-B.

Mayor Mamdani vetoed 175-B! Supported by Zionist institutions, 175-B seeks to prevent pro-Palestine protests at schools. The Mayor’s veto comes after a broad coalition of pro-Palestine, Jewish, education, labor, repro, and progressive orgs fought for months against this bill and similar proposals.

The more they try to silence us, the louder we will be!

Major victory for the rights of students and education workers in NYC!! Huge shoutout to @peoplesplannyc.bsky.social and all of the educational groups who have been organizing so hard against 175-B.

Councilmembers are spreading a lot of misinformation about Intros 1-B and 175-B, the two "buffer zone" bills that are slated to be voted on this afternoon. The bills will not combat antisemitism or any form of hate, and will endanger New Yorkers already disproportionately targeted by the NYPD.

One hour left to make these calls today! It is imperative everyone call these councilmembers to let them know that they have been duped: 1-A and 175-B are NOT hate crime prevention measures. They are designed to prevent forms of speech that the speaker disagrees with.

“Hi there — I am a New Yorker calling to urge Councilmember Salaam to revoke his sponsorship for bills Int.1-A and Int.175-B. Neither of these bills work to combat hate — they are not evidence-based solutions and would only criminalize New Yorkers, particularly New Yorkers of color and LGBTQ+ New Yorkers, who already face violence and prejudice at the hands of the NYPD. These bills are harmful. They would further Trump’s authoritarian agenda and jeopardize the safety of my community. Thank you!”“Hi there — I am a New Yorker calling to urge Councilmember Marte to revoke his sponsorship for bills Int.1-A and Int.175-B.
