Developmental biologist interested in dosage compensation, sexual dimorphism, evolution and microphotography! Postdoc🪰🇫🇷/PhD🪼🇳🇴

For too long, we have only had 2 sex-specifically spliced genes in the mosquito. Welcome to the world, MOSN! Males: big protein. Females: small protein. Fascinating new domain of unknown function. Congrats Yael Tsitohay + Nipun Basrur. Collab with Sean Eddy + Li Zhao www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

Evolution of MOSN, a novel sex-specifically spliced neuronal gene in the Aedes aegypti mosquito

Sex-specific RNA splicing is a conserved mechanism for generating sexual dimorphism in insects, with the best-studied examples being fruitless and doublesex. To ask whether additional sex-specifically...

These images show live embryos of animals (jellyfish, crustacean, worm, sea urchin, sea squirt, beetle) and one of animals closest single-celled relatives. They were captured taking advantage of fluorescent proteins localised on the outer membrane of cells, allowing us to observe cell outlines. 1/9

Huge thanks to @cnrscotedazur.bsky.social for highlighting our paper on X dosage compensation

Still can’t quite believe it 💫 I’ve received the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science “Jeunes Talents” France 2025 award! I’m so deeply honored — this recognition means so much to me, both as a scientist and as a woman who loves research. 💙🔬 1/3

Rest in peace Jane Goodall, a true giant among scientists. Your breakthroughs into the secret lives of chimpanzees viewed through an anthropomorphic lens – without yet knowing that science had forbidden it – changed science forever, and with it how we see ourselves.

Super excited for our new preprint on the role of tissue mechanics on the neurophysiology and behavior of Ciona. A tour de force by @midlangandreas.bsky.social and other lab members combining tension sensors, calcium imaging, optogenetic tools and of course behavior. More to come soon.

Congratulations to the Chatzigeorgiou lab @mchatzigeorgiou.bsky.social for a new preprint 🤩👏 @midlangandreas.bsky.social and team studied the mechanical forces at play during #Ciona postembryonic development, and found links to larval chemosensation and settlement behavior 🧪 Read the article ⤵️
