you should have basic knowledge of sex hormone endocrinology if youre on hrt or want to b. this sounds hard? like wouldnt i have to go to medical school? if you have a defense of professional integrity on your tongue this means you havent been disappointed yet but you dont have to learn the hard way

We have published the following update to our article following an email response from the New York Times. Trans News Network has a policy against platforming bigotry. As such, we have declined to publish the Times' statement which included blatant transphobia.

Editors' Note, 1/4/26:

A spokesperson from The New York Times emailed Trans News Network the Sunday after publication, disputing various parts of the interview. We reject their disputes as unsubstantiated, nitpicking or willful misreads. We have added minor clarifications at two points in the interview alongside the transcript, which remains as published. We stand by our reporting of the interview with Sweeney, former editor and 11-year veteran of the Times.

The Times also provided TNN a statement responding to the interview, which we have declined to publish due to its inclusion of overt transphobia (such as framing the existence of trans people as “fiercely contested medical and legal debates”). Even in their PR, it seems that the Times can't stop denigrating our lives and communities.

We do not have an obligation to publish damage control on the behalf of a news outlet undergoing a legitimacy crisis because of their own actions.

In this in-depth interview Billie Jean Sweeney — a former editor at The New York Times — details how the paper shifted towards openly promoting anti-trans hatred, why this was directed from the very top, how some staff pushed back and the immense damage done by the NYT legitimizing bigotry.

so the Economist article isn't attributed an author. but someone in the replies of this 🧵 tipped me off that it was Jəsse Singal. & it turns out that it was, which in retrospect isn't surprising (as he's one of the ppl who would never answer this question):

many ppl highlighting flaws in this article. but having fought in the "80% desistance" wars of the mid-2010s, I remember asking anti-trans activists if they'd be ok if 80% of youth were helped by gender-affirming care (flipping their argument). & they *never* answered. b/c they want *zero* trans ppl

screenshot of a The Economist post that reads: "A recent study found that children who transitioned young retained stable gender identities over time. But the fact that nearly a fifth of those in the group did not ought to give advocates of irreversible medical interventions pause". the byline of the linked to article says "a study finds that one in five who switch gender change their mind"

I've said this before and will I guess just keep saying it, but: It has been literally easier for me to sell multiple novels and break into writing for TV on an Emmy-nominated show than to sell one (1) piece about trans issues to a major publication.

I'd go back to 2004 when I was 13. I told my therapist I wanted to be a girl, but I quickly reeled it back in because I was worried that she would tell my mom and my mom wouldn't love me anymore. I would tell my younger self that my mom still loves me and how much happier I could be.

I really like the specificity of nsfw/adult content filters on bluesky. Other sites will just flag something as adult content, which is useless if you follow a lot of queer people. Am I about to see full-blown porn, surgery scars, or a boring discussion about transition? Spin the wheel to find out.

This is an appallingly discriminatory document. This not only seeks to define transgender people out of existence, as with last week's order, today's executive order states that being transgender "conflicts with a soldier's commitment to an honorable, truthful, and disciplined lifestyle."

Consistent with the military mission and longstanding DoD policy, expressing a false "gender identity" divergent from an individual's sex cannot satisfy the rigorous standards necessary for military service. Beyond the hormonal and surgical medical interventions involved, adoption of a gender identity inconsistent with an individual's sex conflicts with a soldier's commitment to an honorable, truthful, and disciplined lifestyle, even in one's personal life. A man's assertion that he is a woman, and his requirement that others honor this falsehood, is not consistent with the humility and selflessness required of a service member.

Major news: Donald Trump has just issued a trans military ban, with much of the details left to Hegseth. It states that being trans is incompatible with "an honorable, truthful, and disciplined lifestyle" I know many military trans people who have served admirably for decades. Shameful.
