The sword dangling over my head had lowered a touch over night. Still not close enough that I was freaking out but I could sense its movement.
if you can make your life more livable in unlivable times i think that's good actually

It is extremely important to remember that we could develop and maintain technology wayyyy differently than it is being done. And that we can radically change the model of how technology is built around here. We can fix this at a very fundamental level, at the very core.
uk airports really are world leading architectural marvels in the specific field of Toilet Labyrinth.
I always sort of want to roast the hulk like a serrano pepper. and then scoop out his seeds
Govt planning c. 100 new data centres by early 2030s, mostly in already water stressed areas. They have no legal obligation to disclose how much water they use. Meanwhile Govt launches £75m publicity campaign to urge us to reduce water use & privatised water companies waste 19% thro leaks. Madness
no, i'm worried about the trillions of dollars of new infrastructure we're building in service of the damnable thing, much of it carbon-emitting. i'm worried about the very clear statement of priorities this represents on the part of western economies.
real talk, how many of y’all are genuinely concerned about super intelligent AI ushering in the end of days?
every day another reason to hate this accursed technology
No longer content with pillaging intellectual work and dismembering our environment (already critically weakened), AI companies are now hellbent on destroying books galore including rare editions. Shut down these nefarious enterprises already.

if I see one more video of that bilious Ogilvy exec lathering on the cambridge university accent to talk about how kids shouldn't get a university education i am going to explode
I wonder how we got to a state where a bunch of people in our field misunderstand computer science fundamentals so severely they think a large enough computer running a special enough algorithm can escape the basic mathematical rules behind computational efficiency and computability

RE: https://mastodon.me.uk/@Floppy/116940067151749214 This is actually happening; we're building a community to execute a bigotry-free #Rails fork (29 people and increasing at time of writing). Come join us, we need your help and expertise. https://matrix.to/#/#amiko:matrix.org
I am ashamed of the fact that I’m stuck on #Rails because of the sunk costs of what I’ve already built, as are *so many* other project like Mastodon. We cannot “just move”, the cost is enormous. The Rails core team seem utterly compromised and under his spell. Nobody will speak out. We need a […]

i was today years old when I learned that `someSelectElement.value` and `someSelectElement.getAttribute("value")` refer to two distinct and unrelated things.
2026 really feels like the year The West has fully locked in on the "you'll probably die in a slum" macro-historical trajectory.
Some thoughts, in here, on existing in a heatwave with a neurodivergent and dysautonomic body that struggles to thermoregulate itself - and trying to undo the false binary of body/brain. Bit of a niche one but hopefully it finds its little audience! nothingbutawordbag.substack.com/p/weathering...

"why does the UK change leaders so often?" there are diminishing returns wrt how long each vessel can house thatcher's spirit. by the end of the century we'll be getting through 1000 prime ministers a day

Yes, the Problems are bad, but this is no time for radical things like Solutions
it is incredibly important to understand that the following are sexist assumptions about the world: that a man who overworks is a provider, or a job creator; that a woman who overworks is shirking her responsibilities to her family, neglecting her community. we must destroy these sexist ideas
being a male workaholic is so much more glamarous than being a female workaholic. the male workaholic has sortof this sympathetic hollowness as he walks with a drink in hand through the rooms of his life, most importantly the boardroom, none so vacant as those which hold his wife and children
investors aren't pumping money into b/c they're wildly irrational and deluded about its capabilities or profitability. they're funding it because eliminating jobs and destroying epistemic reality are useful outcomes to them, and the tech *is* doing those things
