I’ve never been so disappointed about something that had never occurred to me before.
Come ON are you fucking kidding me
I understand the sentiment, but foreign aid is a tiny percentage of the federal budget, and most of it goes to buy products made by Americans
1/4 I’m just a middle aged midwestern mom but I wish the democrats would listen to people like me. We’re not “going communist or socialist.” Most of us can’t define those terms. But we are pissed about the $$ we give to countries that enjoy way more benefits than we do.
Tom Nichols on the dangers of getting used to Trump’s bonkers talk: “He is the president of the United States. What he says is policy. There is an entire army, a million people, at his command who will execute his wishes.” @radiofreetom.bsky.social
🧵🧵🧵 A scandal that hardly anyone knows happened is Trump giving traitor Michael Flynn $1.25 million in your tax money. Flynn, Trump’s 1st national security adviser, pleaded guilty twice to lying to the FBI but was pardoned by Trump. He sued, alleging "weaponization," and DOJ paid him in March. 1/4🧵
Justice Dept. Settles Flynn’s Wrongful Prosecution Suit for $1.25 Million (Gift Article)
The agreement was an extraordinary example of how the Trump administration has offered legal relief to those aligned with the president.

It's a fallacy to think that the Trump regime is pro-military. it's pro-violence and pro-stealing-from-foreign-countries, but it's anti-military-families. As Trump has demonstrated, he thinks soldiers are "suckers" and "losers."
AP Exclusive: Trump's immigration crackdown has detained more than 50 military spouses and parents
An Associated Press investigation reveals that President Donald Trump’s administration has detained dozens of parents and spouses of active-duty U.S. troops.

Abdul El-Sayed’s win represents a big blow to the politics of bygone days. Because if one campaign can show that *that* much money and *that* much old guard support doesn’t guarantee victory, it cracks open what can be imagined. It widens the aperture of what’s possible.
Will This Be AIPAC’s Biggest Defeat – Ever?
Prem was on hand in Michigan to witness the nail-biter between Abdul El-Sayed and Haley Stevens, which appears to have gone down as an astonishing failure for AIPAC.

An Angry Trump Struggles to Understand Iran’s Defiant Leaders
Iran’s leaders have perplexed several American presidents, perhaps none more than President Trump.

Get ready for three months of the most vile, disgusting, unapologetically islamophobic and racist commentary you've ever seen from the GOP during a campaign.
The only drug I'm on is endorsed by the Secretary of War, Mr. Tapper, who I was just doing shots with, and its only side effects are making you very short tempered and extremely violent. I don't remember which woman accused me of that specific act of violence, which I think you'll agree is her fault
Bay Area friends: would you consider opening your home to these two cuddly cats? A friend found them behind a gas station. Their sibling, a black cat, got adopted, but it appears no one likes orange cats. They are being kept in a bathroom for the time being and need a home.
A friend of mine found these three kittens behind a Bay Area gas station. They are tame, vaccinated, and incredibly affectionate. Unfortunately, she's unable to keep them and I'm trying to find them a home. They are at risk of going to a shelter. Bay Area people, are you open to adopting?
If you show up to Bluesky without following anyone, you'll be treated to a series of posts about art, music, and dogs. If you show up to X without following anyone, you'll be bombarded with right-wing conspiracies and white supremacist slop. It's weird which one is seen as a "political bubble"
Dr Oz: "This is corruption on the underlying system ... when everyone is doing it, that's a real pathology. Bc if you're not part of the corrupt system, you're a fool. When I'm lying to you & you know I'm lying & I know that you know that I'm lying, & on & on & on, that's how countries collapse."
Lawrence O'Donnel thinks Senators Cornyn and Tillis were threatened with senate "shunning", where after they retire they will not be able to speak with their Republican colleagues and unable to seek favors like jobs for their family members or take on lucrative lobbying roles.
"We have no alternative but to believe the promises of a man who has brazenly lied to us time and time again. You see, I am but a simple United States senator, bereft of any power and beholden to the whims of the pedophile president's consigliere."
Cornyn: "As to the idea it could be revived in the future, I think it's highly unlikely that could happen without the cooperation of the DOJ. And I think Mr Blanche gave us the assurances that it was dead and would not be revived and in this case we have no alternative but to take his word" 🙃
And narcissistic personality disorder, and, at this stage, psychosis.
Trump: "I know Europe better than anybody. Better than the people that run it."
Fundamentally this is a desire for a return to the exclusionary grand bargain from before the Civil Rights era. Democrats abandoned that grand bargain in the 1960s, and a lot of white men have never gotten over the idea that they need to share political power with anyone who doesn’t look like them.
I agree with Edsall: Dems should try to win without the support of women, minorities, LGBTQ people, leftists, or people who need/support social services and/or are concerned about gun violence. Surely there's enough rich white straight male reactionary centrist columnists for an electoral majority!

There Will Come Soft Rains by Ray Bradbury

He's losing words. Anyone with a parent or loved one suffering from dementia will recognize this pattern. Wen he says "moving cameras," it's because he can't recall the word "videos" and so he's stating the component parts as best he can. E.g., a "camera" is involved and the images are "moving"
Trump: "We have photographs or tapes -- like moving cameras, right? -- where people are on the side cutting it with a box knife."
oh my god he hit the reflecting pool with a "two weeks" dawgggggg that thing's never opening again

Bluesky's new CEO Toni Schneider on the platform's reputation for being a liberal bubble: "Yes, we definitely want that to change. It is already changing. It certainly wasn’t designed to attract one specific group of people."
An important lesson given RFK's claims he's doing a "cooking show."

I don't believe him, I don't disbelieve him. Everything he says in this is bullshit because that is the purpose of CEO interviews.
next time we're picking someone to be the richest person alive I vote we pick someone who isn't also a finalist for stupidest guy alive
The richest person in the world, an avowed white supremacist, today again posted "the next step is getting rid of 'source code' entirely and just making an efficient binary directly with AI" because he has no idea how anything works, not even the basics of industries he is in.
