BIG: Three Hearst newsrooms have filed charges against the company for violating federal law. "Hearst needs to end its unlawful tactics, including regressive bargaining and disciplining members for doing Guild business, and come to the table and negotiate in good faith," @albanyguild.bsky.social
The owner of the Idaho Statesman, News Tribune, Bellingham Herald, Tri-City Herald and The Olympian must come to the table immediately with a reasonable offer.
Yet McClatchy won’t listen and has violated federal labor law by refusing to bring decision-makers to the table or even identify them. Both unions have filed an Unfair Labor Practice with the National Labor Relations Board over this tactic.
We have overwhelmingly voted to go on STRIKE as we fight for a fair contract with McClatchy Media and its five Pacific Northwest newspapers. Our demands are simple: Protections against AI and wages that keep up with inflation.

Unionized journalists at the Sacramento Bee stand united against McClatchy’s latest AI “articles” initiative. We have withheld our bylines from these stories because we do not want the public to think this is being done in our name — it’s not. We think it’s disgusting.
McClatchy wants you to invest in a Sacramento Bee subscription, but the company doesn’t want to invest in its reporters. Under management’s latest offer, seven local journalists would still make salaries low enough to qualify them for low-income housing.
