ACTION ALERT: Please attend the 19th Police District's monthly meeting to learn more about where the RRPEA pilot stands and how you can help. If CPD isn't going to enforce traffic laws to keep us safe, we need citywide programs that let us help keep us safe. 📍4501 N Clarendon ⏰ Weds July 29th 6:30p

ACTION ALERT 🚨 Ald. Martin (47) is hosting a hearing at the Committee on Public Safety on Thursday, September 3rd at 10:30a. With the 8th and 19th Police District Councilors, there is a proposal to direct all 911 parking violation (PVs) calls to the Department of Finance rather than CPD (1/4).

Current Situation: CPD responds to a high volume of low-priority 911 calls for parking violations (PVs), receiving
about 100,000 PV calls to 911 yearly (source: OIG Dashboard). This makes up almost 8% of total
911 calls citywide. Meanwhile, Chicago's Department of Finance (DOFJ already employs
Parking Enforcement Aides (PEAs) that regularly enforce these same parking violations.

Summary

A pilot program in the 8

th and 19th Police Districts to reassign primary response

for parking-related 911 calls to DOF Parking Enforcement Aides, to be
designated as Rapid Response Parking Enforcement Aides (RRPEAs). In each of
these two Districts-Chicago's most populous-PVs account for approximately
10% of all 911 calls.CPD would retain full parking enforcement authority, and
would remain the primary responder to PV calls outside of RRPEA working
hours and on holidays.
A collaborative model with DOF, CPD, and OEMC offers significant advantages:
• Improved Efficiency: Assigning parking enforcement to a more appropriate
agency allows for a more immediate response and a more efficient use of
City resources.
• Save CPD Officers' Time: Removing nearly 10% of low-level 911 calls from
CPD's plate would free up officers' time to address other policing matters.

• Enhanced Constituent Satisfaction: Quicker response times for parking-
related issues will boost public satisfaction and increase safety.

• Revenue Generation: Timely enforcement and citations by RRPEAs are
expected to generate City revenue. Each active PEA currently generates

about $335,000 in net revenue. This pilot program is projected to be self-
sustaining.

• Model for Alternative Response: This pilot can serve as a blueprint for other
alternative first-response initiatives in Chicago and throughout the country.
• From 2022-2024, fewer than 0.05% of PV calls involved a violent or
potentially violent situation. (108 out of more than 278,500 calls.)

We need a universal, significant study of traffic safety issues at the perimeter of all of Chicago's parks and schools. I'd posit that most school / park perimeters can see on-street parking removed, drive aisles reduced, and designed to enforce < 10mph speeds. blockclubchicago.org/2026/06/22/d...

Drivers Keep Running Over Warning Signs At North Side Intersection, But City Plans No Major Changes

Neighbor Jason Thompson has been sounding the alarm about the "dangerous" intersection along Montrose Avenue near Horner Park for nearly two years.

what is with the aversion to putting bollards on ped islands where people are supposed to be protected from cars? these things should either be actual safety infrastructure or we should acknowledge it's only there to make us feel safe and stop pretending the city cares about cars killing people

🚲 New Divvy record: 47,400 rides yesterday! The previous record (42,000 rides) was set just last Saturday. For context, there was only one day over 40,000 rides in all of 2025. Divvy has now had three in the last 8 days. Chicago keeps riding 🚀

sorry about your loss but won’t you think about the drivers same as don’t use that school shooting to talk about sensible gun regulations tone deaf but an honest assessment that they know their position is dangerous, as dangerous as the product tobacco, oil/gas etc use the same playbook

I don’t own a car, and I don’t want one. What I love most about the CTA is the sense of community it creates. It reminds us that every day, we are moving through the city together. Read my thoughts on transit and making it even better in @chicagotribune.com: www.chicagotribune.com/2026/06/08/l...

Letters: Readers share how the CTA makes them happy and how it infuriates them

While the CTA is not perfect, I believe progress is being made.

From what I’ve ascertained: The Chicago Police unilaterally exerted their authority to close Lawrence Ave from DLSD to the Kennedy as well as parts of both highways and Sheridan Rd. They restricted parking and towed without notice, and the city is responsible for the lost Parking Meter revenue.

There isn't enough housing available — and outdated laws make it difficult and expensive to build more. The Building Up Illinois Developments plan would eliminate unnecessary barriers to housing construction and close financing gaps for housing of all kinds.

Take a look at the historical multifamily production chart. The first half of the period, there's a lot of green. The second half of the period, a lot of red. Zoom in on the green mountains and you'll find federal policies carefully designed to make the line go up.
