As UK opposition leader I vigorously defended the selection of a neo-Nazi and convicted antisemitic abuser as a local candidate, and when he withdrew, made him an adviser on party culture

I have read Joshua Bonehill-Paine’s blogpost from April entitled “Inside the Mind of an Antisemite -and How I Escaped It”. It’s a fascinating account of being consumed by hateful, extremist ideology. You know what’s not in there? An apology. To Luciana Berger or the wider Jewish community

Didn't we have a few years of panic over antisemitism in the Labour Party under Corbyn? Anyway, the Tories have a literal neo-Nazi running for local council, backed by Badenoch, but he's no longer an *antisemitic* neo-Nazi because he says he supports Israel

This is absolutely extraordinary. It's hard to know where to start. The utter tone-deafness? The scorn towards local government? The high-handed dismissiveness towards people affected by racism and antisemitism? Badenoch is an X-brained crackpot.

Sad to see LibDems jump on the prison panic bandwagon. "We know some prisoners must be released earlier, but not them, or them, or him, or her, or them, etc..." is an infinite loop that destroys public trust. Also potentially dangerous, as it throttles arrest/prosecution/sentencing at the other end.

“I wouldn’t want to be physically adjacent to (Joshua Bonehill-Paine),” said Berger. “I’m deeply concerned about his misogyny, and about the pornographic images he created.. he is not an acceptable person to be in public life.” Badenoch supports him of course. Antisemtic neo Nazis are ok if Tory.

www.theguardian.com/politics/202... Badenoch strongly supports the MP candidacy of a former proud neo-Nazi who isn’t just an antisemite but actually went to prison for it. Everyone deserves a second chance,’ she says. Sounds unusually humane for this vicious, horrid and non-empathetic woman.

Ex-MP urges Tories to drop candidate jailed for campaign of antisemitic abuse against her

Luciana Berger says Joshua Bonehill-Paine should have no role in public life because of ‘his racism and his view of women’

That Joshua Bonehill-Paine is a suitable Tory candidate but Grant Shapps and Gavin Barwell have been excluded is quite a good indicator of how many seats the Tories will realistically regain at the next election.

Badenoch represents double-down conservatism. Never apologise or moderate. Insult your opponents. Patronise journalists when challenged. Contradict yourself, lie, whatever it takes, but never back down. And that's how you end up creating an extremely avoidable Tory antisemitism scandal overnight

Though it is repellent, I’m glad The Guardian have left this piece up, rather than trying to hide the shame of publishing it. It doesn’t read as satire, apart from maybe the first paragraph. It’s an edgelording provocation & a pose, I think, though I also doubt know what to make of the conclusion.

I genuinely can't stop thinking about this piece of his someone shared earlier, in part because I sincerely can't work out which parts of it I am supposed to treat as "real" and which are "provocations" because surely, surely, the conclusion can't be real. www.theguardian.com/society/2003...
