Tournament debutants Malawi, led by the Chawinga sisters, are at the top of Group C with 6 points, but need to keep the momentum up against a motivated Zambia team, who can go through with a win against them. Nigeria are nearly assured of going through playing against an eliminated Egyptian side.

Everything happened as it needed to for South Africa. They squeaked by Burkina Faso 1-0 and Côte d'Ivoire cruised 2-1 over Tanzania. Les Élephantes take 1st in the group, and Banyana Banyana's 2nd place finish means they have to beat hosts Morocco in the quarterfinals to qualify for next summer.

In Group B seems to be the tightest. After a stunning loss to Tanzania, typical favorite South Africa drew with Côte d'Ivoire, and now sit in 4th with 1pt, while Les Élephantes are on 1st with 4pts. South Africa now need to beat Burkina Faso and hope for Côte d'Ivoire win v Tanzania.

In Group A, hosts Morocco seem to be safely through to the quarterfinals, and haven't been scored on yet. For 3rd place Senegal to go through, they'll have to beat Morocco. Algeria, sitting in 2nd on goal differential, will play Kenya, who is already eliminated.

With all Match Day 1s complete, here are the group standings for WAFCON 2026. Top 2 advance to the quarters; semi-finalists are the women's World Cup qualifiers. The one to watch is Group C, after defending champs Nigeria were upset by Malawi.

The Thorns have now dropped 18 points from leading positions, more then any other team in the league. Had they held the lead and kept those 18 points, they'd be 9 points clear of Gotham in 1st place.

That was a paddlin'. It's hard to know what to say after conceding goal 4, let alone in a post-game show.

Anyway, my parents are okay, but they have around a dozen friends in the area who lost houses. My brother's HS friend, a firefighter working one of the fires, lost their house. My best friend's mom and sister evac'ed and don't know if their house is gone. It's pretty scary in Spokane right now.
