In response to the unprecedented number of game developers laid off this year, we have created a bundle on itch to benefit a Game Industry Hardship Fund, managed by @videogameworkers.bsky.social. More than 100 games for 10+ bucks! Please share widely and donate generously! itch.io/b/3802/game-...

I haven't had any outright problems with this at my current job, but still had to get an approval and theoretically they could block me from my side projects. Have also talked with some other companies that said outright they wouldn't allow it. Fuck that shit.
'I have been hunted down by HR reps, lawyers, and comms people:' Developers discuss the pain and prevalence of side work clauses
Happy 5th birthday, little Senjed! ♥️ He got to try cat ice cream for the first time, and got a new cat pillar after the old one was retired from very heavy use.
if you want a fun way to stick it to tech giants and gen AI today, get the indie game where they literally made all their sprites and animations with embroidery, and leave a review to support them, because this is SO. FUCKING. COOL!
Being a solo dev with a background in mainly programming really makes me realize what parts of game development I'm less good at. In my case: UI Hats off to all you UI/UX designers out there. Keep making cool stuff, and maybe I'll manage to learn some decent UI design one day as well! #indiedev
breaking news, making cute shit is actually great for getting people to wishlist your game
as a producing and marketing professional, I would like to confirm that "because it's cute af and makes us happy" is actually an excellent reason to add features to your game.
When I played Gravity Slugger last week healing felt too weak, so I added two new upgrades: Armor (reduces damage taken) and Life Steal (heal on hitting enemy) Played again yesterday... made them WAY too strong. Never survived that long before. Rebalancing time then, I guess 😅 #gamedev #indiegame

Me + trains = cursed today. On the way to a music rehearsal, I managed to miss three trains for three different reasons. Now on the way back, there's apparently an evacuation alarm at the station where I have to switch back to metro so the train I was on couldn't stop there.

Under a Binface government, anyone who doesn’t accept human-made climate change as fact will be sent back to school, from Year 1 right the way to A Levels, to see if anything goes in the second time round. #VoteBinface
Even after all these years I still find the fact that something like *this* was on the official soundtrack of a version of "Sid Meier's Pirates!" incredibly amusing. Only in the early 90s. 🏴☠️💿🔊🎶
There's a few slots for this if anyone wants free art for their indie game characters. Just drop a comment in that post with what you want and i'll get all that to Kristin till we run out of slots.
Did something crazy and i'm sponsoring some art for #indiegamedev so if anyone would like a bust sketch of their indie characters done by Kristin in the below style please comment below. First come first serve.
For years we have been overwhelmed by the volume of code contributions we have to review, especially from new contributors. AI has made the problem much worse. That's why we are taking steps to reduce the burden on maintainers while still welcoming new contributors: godotengine.org/article/cont...

Godot is growing fast, so here is how we are dealing with the huge increase in contributions.

Being a first time indie dev is terrifying constantly. Started out being told I didn't qualify for unemployment because "you'll be fine at 20 hours" Thousands of hours learning something new. Getting a small bank for business that still suffered from the y2k bug.
🧵Final gamedev thought for the night, but it's very important cause I have been seeing it crop up in other threads by well meaning folk. Please don't recommend to industry devs that they should pivot to indie. That seems to be an impulsive response, but it's not a viable option for 95% of people.

One of my friends just announced their new game: Moose Builders! So fun to see him continuing the moose theme on his games. I guess he's trying to moose-ter that genre... 🫎🥁😂 #indiegame #gamedev

UK folks, let's jump on this AI regulation petition the Society of Authors emailed out! It's an actual parliament one so the government HAS to respond if it reaches the signature threshold. It calls for regulations to make AI developers disclose copyrighted works trained on. Sign & repost!! ❤️

First short-form video I ever made, showcasing the Mass Boost ability in my game! I had to restrain myself from making too many stupid jokes about "size" and "balls" when uploading the video 😂 I don't get how I failed to think of those jokes while editing it.
