can think of few worse ways to get people excited about The X-Files coming back than re-releasing the second movie
I know it's time to send this book proposal because all I'm doing at this point is flip-flopping on the title
Have to say it feels pretty cool. Grateful to Alex Boyd @alexboydwriter.bsky.social and congrats to him on his new book of essays with @palimpsestpress.bsky.social! I also noticed some reviews of work by my peers like @peterbcounter.com in here. 👀
You know so far I've had 3 books come out, and I've had dozens of reviews published, and I've even been lucky enough to have received some really thoughtful reviews of my books...but I think this is the first time I've ever seen a review of my work IN a book.

probably not good that the algorithms dictating how much we are heard privilege anger, conflict, and self-righteousness above all else
Good morning, please enjoy this NYT caption accidentally calling Queen Camilla a horse
It's happening! But also thank god for holiday Mondays.
I am going to finish this book proposal this weekend if it kills me.
using a jaguar as an action movie weapon is still good as hell
as a straightforward depiction of the collapse of mayan civilization Apocalypto is offensively racist and ass-backwards wrong about damn near everything but as a mad max-style action fantasy it’s just glorious man it really is

I feel this. I think my cultural Catholicism has conditioned me to reject all flattery, and my bipolar makes it so that no compliments can escape the gravity of my depression or match the hubris of my hypomania.
This is an interesting observation/question and all I can say is that it does make a ton of sense to me that a certain kind of dude would get instantly sucked in by something that tells him he's brilliant all the time. On the other hand, as anyone who has ever tried to give me a compliment knows ..

I sincerely believe that men cannot handle this. women may be falling in love with their chat bots, too. But I don't think they are categorically attached to its flattery to the same degree.

Using lists of three is not an "AI tell." It's a common trait in human writing because our brains biologically want to make sure there's always one thing to marry, one thing to fuck, and one thing to murder.
a fun tidbit from when sean was recovering post-stroke was i went to visit him in the hospital and made one of my classic tears in heaven jokes, to lift his spirits obviously. he looked at me somberly and said 'that's in really poor taste' and it legitimately ended up being the brain damage talking
eric clapton fans don’t have the arm strength to execute a good slap sorry 😞
"Sorry, pigs, come back with a warrant." *Cops start blasting "Cherry Pie" from a boombox* "...okay, fuck, you guys got me there, come on inside."
I would like to retract this statement. I didn't realize it was Joyce who started this. I just saw the comment repeated without attribution by some lesser being (classic Bluesky problem).
it is a fully compromised take to be like: Nolan made a movie that resulted in sales of a book you translated so you must be grateful and keep your critique to yourself
I don't think I actually liked it, but I can't stop thinking about Mortal Kombat II.
